Selecting optimal air diving gradient factors for Belgian military divers: more conservative settings are not necessarily safer
CONCLUSIONS: For non-repetitive air dives, the optimal GF setting is GFLO 100, with only the GFHI parameter lowered to increase safety. No evidence was found that using the default GF setting (30/70) would lead to a safer decompression for air dives as deep as 60 metres of seawater; rather the opposite. Belgian Navy divers have been advised against using the default GF settings of the Shearwater Perdix dive computer and instead adopt symmetrical GF settings which is currently the optimal achievable approach considering the software constraints.PMID:37718300 | DOI:10.28920/dhm53.3.251-258

American Podiatric Surgeons' Postoperative Multimodal Analgesic-Prescribing Practice: A 2019-2020 National Survey
CONCLUSIONS: Podiatric surgeons with fewer years in practice had increased odds of supplementing with an anticonvulsant. Approximately one-third of podiatric surgeons reported using some form of a nonopioid analgesic and an opioid in every scenario. The use of multimodal analgesics was associated with a reduction in the number of opioid dosage units prescribed at the time of surgery and may be a reasonable adjunct to current protocols.PMID:37717233 | DOI:10.7547/21-145

Dissemination and Implementation of a Community Health Worker Intervention for Disparities in Palliative Care (DeCIDE PC): a study protocol for a hybrid type 1 randomized controlled trial
DISCUSSION: We expect the DeCIDE PC intervention to improve integration of palliative care, reduce multilevel barriers to care, enhance clinic and patient linkage to resources, and ultimately improve palliative care outcomes for African American patients with advanced cancer. Initial versus early switch to targeted therapy during first-line treatment among patients with biomarker-positive advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in the United States
CONCLUSION: In both unadjusted and adjusted analyses, there were no differences in the clinical outcomes observed among patients with a/mNSCLC in this study. This study found that initiating chemotherapy with an early switch to targeted therapy (within 56 days) of receiving biomarker positive results may be an acceptable strategy for a patient for whom immediate care is needed.PMID:37717466 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctarc.2023.100761

Association of psoriasis and stroke in end-stage renal disease patients
CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to prior research in the general population, psoriasis in ESRD patients was not associated with the risk of stroke after controlling for various demographic and clinical parameters. Mothers' and fathers' attitudes toward stuttering in the Middle East compared to Europe and North America
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: The effect of geographic region and culture may predict sex-based differences among mothers' and fathers' attitudes toward stuttering; however, the clinical significance is unclear.
