Self-care treatment for lymphoedema of lymphatic filariasis using integrative medicine
CONCLUSION: IM for lower limb lymphoedema successfully reduces limb volume and episodes of cellulitis, BEEPs leading to improved HQoL. It aligns with the WHO's LF treatment goals. It is a low-cost predominantly self-care management protocol. It can potentially change care models and improve lymphoedema patients' lives.PMID:37615507 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljad310

Prevalence and predictors of primary nonadherence to medications prescribed in primary care
CMAJ. 2023 Aug 8;195(30):E1000-E1009. doi: 10.1503/cmaj.221018.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Most research on medication adherence has focused on secondary nonadherence and persistence to therapy. Medication prescriptions that are never filled by patients (primary nonadherence) remain understudied in the general population.METHODS: We linked prescribing data from primary care electronic medical records to comprehensive pharmacy dispensing claims between January 2013 and April 2019 in British Columbia (BC) to estimate primary nonadherence, defined as failure to dispense a new medication or its equivalent within 6 months of the prescr...

Progression of stroke risk in patients aged & lt;65 years diagnosed with atrial fibrillation: a cohort study in general practice
CONCLUSION: People aged <65 years with AF are at higher risk of developing hypertension, heart failure, and diabetes than the general population, so may warrant regular review to identify new occurrence of such risk factors.PMID:37487643 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0568

Identification of frailty in primary care: accuracy of electronically derived measures
CONCLUSION: This study showed that of four frailty measures based on electronic medical records in primary care only the CCI had an acceptable performance to assess frailty compared with frailty assessments done by professionals. In the youngest age groups diagnostic performance was acceptable for all measures. However, performance declined with older age and was least accurate in the oldest age group, thereby limiting the use in patients of most interest.PMID:37487641 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0574

Detecting the corneal neovascularisation area using artificial intelligence
CONCLUSION: The proposed algorithm showed a high accuracy compared with the measurement made by an ophthalmologist. The study suggests that an automated tool using artificial intelligence may be used for the calculation of the CoNV area from the slit-lamp images of patients with CoNV.PMID:37339866 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-323308

Depression and anxiety in women with idiopathic intracranial hypertension compared to migraine: A matched controlled cohort study
CONCLUSION: Depression and anxiety burden in women with IIH is higher than in the general population, and comparable to that in matched women with migraine. This may indicate that presence of headache is a potential driver for comorbid depression and anxiety in IIH.PMID:36748660 | DOI:10.1111/head.14465
