Metformin has anti-inflammatory effects and induces immunometabolic reprogramming in hidradenitis suppurativa via multiple mechanisms
CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides insight into the mechanisms of action of metformin in HS. The anti-inflammatory effects of metformin support its use as a therapeutic agent in HS, while its effects on immunometabolism suggest that targeting metabolism is a promising therapeutic option in inflammatory diseases, including HS.PMID:37648653 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljad305

Association of metformin use and survival in patients with cutaneous melanoma and diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Metformin use was associated with improved OS in patients with CM and diabetes regardless of timing (pre-, post- or peridiagnostic use) and followed a dose-response pattern. However, further research regarding the underlying mechanisms is warranted.PMID:36689497 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljac003

Repurposing Metformin for Vascular Disease
Curr Med Chem. 2022 Jul 29. doi: 10.2174/0929867329666220729154615. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetformin has seen use as an oral anti-hyperglycaemic drug since the late 1950s; however, following the release in 1998 of the findings of the 20-year United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) metformin use rapidly increased and today is the first-choice anti-hyperglycaemic drug for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Metformin is in daily use by an estimated 150 million people worldwide. Historically, the benefits of metformin as an anti-diabetic and cardiovascular-protective drug have been linked to effects in the l...

Conclusion: These assays are suitable for routine diagnostic. The UltraFast NextGenPCR is the fastest with average time (30mins), followed by Agilent (2 hrs) and MassArray (6hrs). Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to examine, measure and compare results from different assays for SARS detection, evaluate and diagnose accurately, as well as being able to plan, organize and recommend a diagnostic procedure for diagnostic laboratory. Key words: SARS-CoV-2, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, limit of detection, quantification cycle, COVID-19, in vitro diagnostic tests, Agilent, Massarray, Ultrafast. [20] From t...
