Promise of Physiological Profiling to Prevent Stroke in People of African Ancestry: Prototyping Ghana
AbstractPurpose of ReviewWorldwide, compared to other racial/ethnic groups, individuals of African ancestry have an excessively higher burden of hypertension-related morbidities, especially stroke. Identifying modifiable biological targets that contribute to these disparities could improve global stroke outcomes. In this scoping review, we discuss how pathological perturbations in the renin –angiotensin–aldosterone pathways could be harnessed via physiological profiling for the purposes of improving blood pressure control for stroke prevention among people of African ancestry.Recent FindingsTranscontinental comparative...

Predictors of poststroke health-related quality of life in nigerian stroke survivors: a 1-year follow-up study.
This study aims to identify the predictors in the different aspects of the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and to measure the changes of functional status over time in a cohort of Nigerian stroke survivors. A prospective observational study was conducted in three hospitals of Kano state of Nigeria where stroke survivors receive rehabilitation. The linguistic-validated Hausa versions of the stroke impact scale 3.0, modified Rankin scale, Barthel index and Beck depression inventory scales were used. Paired samples t-test was used to calculate the amount of changes that occur over time and the forward stepwise linear r...

Stroke risk factors among participants of a world stroke day awareness program in South-Western Nigeria
Conclusion: Stroke risk factors such as hypertension and obesity were common among the participants of the world stroke day awareness program in an urban area of Nigeria. Community screening and modification of these risk factors should be intensified in order to reduce stroke morbidity and mortality.

Satisfaction of Nigerian stroke survivors with outpatient physiotherapy care.
CONCLUSION: The stroke survivors were generally satisfied with outpatient physiotherapy care. However, lack of continuity and cost of care were sources of dissatisfaction among patients. Delivery of physiotherapy to stroke survivors in Nigeria should be structured to allow for continuity of care as this may enhance satisfaction. Implementation of inexpensive rehabilitation strategies may help reduce cost of physiotherapy. PMID: 27892812 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relation between index of cardioelectrophysiological balance and stroke severity in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion: Our results suggested that iCEB is associated with stroke severity on admission in patients with acute ischemic stroke. It is known that high iCEB is associated with torsade de pointes (TdP), ventricular tachycardia.

Quality of life of stroke survivors: A cross-sectional study of association with functional independence, self-reported fatigue and exercise self-efficacy
DISCUSSION: Functional independence and exercise self-efficacy were directly associated with QoL and were also major predictors of good QoL in stroke survivors.PMID:34120490 | DOI:10.1177/17423953211023960
