Using Artificial Intelligence to Develop a Multivariate Model with a Machine Learning Model to Predict Complications in Mexican Diabetic Patients without Arterial Hypertension (National Nested Case-Control Study): Metformin and Elevated Normal Blood Pressure Are Risk Factors, and Obesity Is Protective
In conclusion, the results we have obtained show that artificial intelligence is a powerful and feasible tool to use for this type of study. However, we suggest that more studies be conducted to verify and elaborate upon our findings.PMID:36846513 | PMC:PMC9949947 | DOI:10.1155/2023/8898958

Metformin improves the weight reduction effect of mazindol in prediabetic obese Mexican subjects
CONCLUSION: Our results highlight the effectiveness of mazindol-metformin to achieve higher rates of 7% weight reduction and to improve the glycemic profile in prediabetic obese subjects, which could be useful to prevent or delay T2D in these subjects.PMID:35770520 | DOI:10.5414/CP204180

The L125F MATE1 variant enriched in populations of Amerindian origin is associated with increased plasma levels of metformin and lactate
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Aug 11;142:112009. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.112009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGenetic factors that affect variability in metformin response have been poorly studied in the Latin American population, despite its being the initial drug therapy for type 2 diabetes, one of the most prevalent diseases in that region. Metformin pharmacokinetics is carried out by members of the membrane transporters superfamily (SLCs), being the multidrug and toxin extrusion protein 1 (MATE1), one of the most studied. Some genetic variants in MATE1 have been associated with reduced in vitro metformin transport. The...

Population diversity of three variants of the SLC47A2 gene (MATE2-K transporter) in Mexican Mestizos and Native Americans
CONCLUSIONS: Although the SLC47A2 gene variants allow predicting favorable response to the metformin treatment in Mexican populations, the probable high frequency of ineffectiveness should be discarded in Huichols.PMID:34383246 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-021-06628-y

Risk factors associated with diabetic neuropathy in Mexican patients
CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, the early identification of risk factors for DN development in Mexican population would allow implementing personalized strategies to improve the overall T2D patients' quality of life and reduce healthcare costs in our country.PMID:33784285 | DOI:10.24875/CIRU.20000243
