Alzheimer's Disease as A Viral Infectious Disease: Revisiting the Infectious Hypothesis
Ageing Res Rev. 2023 Sep 11:102068. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2023.102068. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlzheimer's disease (AD) represents the most frequent type of dementia in elderly people. Two major forms of the disease exist: sporadic - the causes of which have not yet been fully understood - and familial - inherited within families from generation to generation, with a clear autosomal dominant transmission of mutations in Presenilin 1 (PSEN1), 2 (PSEN2) or Amyloid Precursors Protein (APP) genes. The main hallmark of AD consists of extracellular deposits of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptide and intracellular deposits of the hyper...

Impact of frequency and duration of freeze-dried inactivated tissue culture hepatitis A vaccine (Aimmugen ®) vaccination on antibody titers; a japanese cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Three doses of Aimmugen® are efficacious, but four or more doses induce more robust and sustained antibody production. Additionally, four or more doses may be effective when there is a need to ensure long-term immunity or risk of prolonged exposure.PMID:37620202 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.08.030

Systematic review of the human health hazards of propylene dichloride
Regul Toxicol Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 8:105468. doi: 10.1016/j.yrtph.2023.105468. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPropylene dichloride (PDC) is a chlorinated substance used primarily as an intermediate in basic organic chemical manufacturing. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently evaluating PDC as a high-priority substance under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). We conducted a systematic review of the non-cancer and cancer hazards of PDC using the EPA TSCA and Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) frameworks. We identified 11 epidemiological, 16 toxicokinetic, 34 experimental animal, and...

Acute liver failure due to herpes simplex viral hepatitis diagnosed by skin lesions and blood tests: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: Acute liver failure can lead to complications and death. Thus, careful observation is crucial, even if the patient has shown some improvements.PMID:37559160 | DOI:10.1186/s13256-023-04083-w

Modeling the impact of vaccination for the immunization Agenda 2030: Deaths averted due to vaccination against 14 pathogens in 194 countries from 2021 to 2030
Vaccine. 2023 Aug 1:S0264-410X(23)00854-X. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.07.033. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) Impact Goal 1.1. aims to reduce the number of future deaths averted through immunization in the next decade. To estimate the potential impact of the aspirational coverage targets for IA2030, we developed an analytical framework and estimated the number of deaths averted due to an ambitious vaccination coverage scenario from 2021 to 2030 in 194 countries.METHOD: A demographic model was used to determine annual age-specific mortality estimates associated with vaccine c...

Network Visualization Analysis on MicroRNAs in Infectious Diseases Research Area
CONCLUSIONS: Since 2019, the number of studies on miRNA in infectious illnesses has steadily increased. China and the USA have made tremendous contributions to this field's study. We discovered several deregulated miRNAs, including miR-122, miR-133a, miR-146, miR-155, and miR-370, were described in the context of sepsis and infection using bibliometric methods. Understanding these crucial factors, as well as how research is performed and directed, might lead to a new perspective in the creation of new strategies to manage variable infections in the coming years.PMID:37464988 | PMC:PMC10351212 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2023.71
