Clinical RoPE (cRoPE) score predicts patent foramen ovale detection among stroke patients: a multicenter observational study
ConclusionsConclusions:  cRoPE might help in stratification of patients with CS, allowing accurate esteem of the likelihood of PFO to be found, especially in cases when neuroimaging is inconclusive.

The effect of robot-assisted walking in different modalities on cardiorespiratory responses and energy consumption in patients with subacute stroke
DISCUSSION: By decreasing GF and BWS values during robot-assisted walking, adequate cardio-metabolic and energy response in both subacute stroke patients and healthy individuals could be achieved. These results show us that it is important to consider the cardiorespiratory function of the patient when choosing training protocols.PMID:36884354 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2188520

The organisation of the acute ischemic stroke management: key notes of the Italian Neurological Society and of the Italian Stroke Organization
AbstractThe main aim of acute ischemic stroke treatment is the as much possible prompt, safe and effective arterial recanalisation, in order to restore reperfusion into the ischemic brain area. The procedures obtaining this result are rapidly evolving and in the last years, we observed new evidences that affirmed the therapeutical benefit of the concomitant treatment using endovenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy in selected patients with ischemic stroke. However, all treatments are time-sensitive and the main limitation for their application is represented by the time. For this reason, the optimisation of the a...

Pharyngeal electrical stimulation for early decannulation in tracheotomised patients with neurogenic dysphagia after stroke (PHAST-TRAC): a prospective, single-blinded, randomised trial
Publication date: Available online 28 August 2018Source: The Lancet NeurologyAuthor(s): Rainer Dziewas, Rebecca Stellato, Ingeborg van der Tweel, Ernst Walther, Cornelius J Werner, Tobias Braun, Giuseppe Citerio, Mitja Jandl, Michael Friedrichs, Katja Nötzel, Milan R Vosko, Satish Mistry, Shaheen Hamdy, Susan McGowan, Tobias Warnecke, Paul Zwittag, Philip M Bath, Tobias Braun, Rainer Dziewas, Michael FriedrichsSummaryBackgroundDysphagia after stroke is common, especially in severely affected patients who have had a tracheotomy. In a pilot trial, pharyngeal electrical stimulation (PES) improved swallowing function in this ...

The clinical management and rehabilitation of post stroke aphasia in Italy: evidences from the literature and clinical experience
AbstractAphasia is one of the most devastating symptoms in stroke survivors and severely affects patients ’ communication, quality of life, and social interactions. Several factors are critical to the prediction of aphasia recovery, including acute stroke management and subsequent language rehabilitation. A comprehensive assessment of language skills with appropriate instruments in different phases of post stroke months and years is needed in patients, in order to monitor their language improvement and to guide speech therapies over time. Beyond spontaneous recovery, the effects of speech and language therapy in terms of...

Adherence to recommendations and clinical outcomes of patients hospitalized for stroke: the role of the admission ward —a real-life investigation from Italy
ConclusionsFor patients with acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, admission to neuro vs. general wards is associated with better out-of-hospital healthcare and long-term adverse outcomes.

Evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Barthel Index in an Italian ischemic stroke population in the acute phase: a cross-sectional study.
This study demonstrates the psychometric properties of the IcaBI in an Italian stroke population, and therefore shows that the scale can be considered a valid and reliable assessment tool for measuring functional disability in Italian acute ischemic stroke survivors. The PRESTO study: awareness of stroke symptoms and time from onset to intervention
In conclusion, our results may suggest that an informative campaign can be successf ul in making people rapidly aware of stroke onset, with the consequent rapid access to hospitals. Considering the changing of way of access to information, we think that an extensive multimedia campaign should be evaluated in the next future.

Current territorial organization for access to revascularization therapies for acute ischemic stroke in the Veneto region (Italy) from 2017 to 2021
ConclusionsTreatment target rates of IVT and MT set by Action Plan for Stroke in Europe 2018 –2030 has been globally exceeded in the Veneto region. However, the target rate of MT and access revascularization treatments is heterogeneous among different macro-areas. Further efforts should be made to homogenize the current territorial organization.

Changing the stroke network during pandemic scenarios does not affect the management of patients with a positive Cincinnati prehospital stroke scale
ConclusionsThe pandemic forced changes in the clinical mission of many hospitals by reducing the number of stroke units. Despite this, the organization of the emergency system allowed to identify strategic hospitals and thus avoid excessive transport time. The result was an adequate time for fibrinolysis/thrombectomy, in agreement with the guidelines. Coordinated management in emergency situations makes it possible to maintain service quality standards, despite the unfavorable scenario.

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation in the Italian population of the wolf motor function test in patients with stroke.
The objective of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the WMFT for the Italian population (WMFT-IT) and examine its reliability and validity in Italian post-stroke adults with chronic hemiplegia or hemiparesis. The original scale was translated into Italian and culturally adapted in accordance with international guidelines. Its internal consistency and stability were examined using the Cronbach's alpha (α) coefficient and the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. Its concurrent validity was evaluated using the Pearson's correlation coefficient to compare the instrument with the Italian versi...

Acute stroke management pathway during Coronavirus-19 pandemic
AbstractSince the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic which in our region, Veneto (Italy), dates back to February, we were confronted with several challenges, but with a constant aim of keeping our Stroke Unit COVID-free. For this reason, in addition to creating a dedicated hot-spot as a pre-triage just outside the Emergency Department, together with the Neuroradiology Unit we obtained a mobile CT unit that could be used by COVID-positive or COVID-suspected patients. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with colleagues from different specialties (Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine),...
