Robotic Klatskin Type 3A Resection with Biliary Reconstruction: Description of Surgical Technique and Outcomes of Initial Series
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic resection of Type 3A Klatskin tumor is safe and feasible with appropriate experience in robotic hepatobiliary surgery, as demonstrated in this video article.PMID:37684368 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14256-y

Bariatric procedures including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in French adolescents
CONCLUSION: Only one third of the obese adolescents requesting bariatric surgery were operated on. Our series including exclusively obese adolescents who underwent an RYGB presents the results of this technique on weight loss and comorbidities; mechanical and nutritional complications remain uncommon. These results are similar to those obtained in studies of adult patients.PMID:37407324 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2023.06.006

Open Versus Laparoscopic Right Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Following Sequential TACE-PVE: A Multicentric Comparative Study
CONCLUSION: Major LLR after TACE/PVE should be considered as a valuable option in expert centers to increase the chance of TO, the latter being associated with a better 5-year OS.PMID:37394670 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-13752-5

Radical Vaginal Hysterectomy, Type B: An Educational Video, Cadaver Model
Ann Surg Oncol. 2023 Apr 19. doi: 10.1245/s10434-023-13419-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe radical vaginal hysterectomy popularized by Schauta1 has been virtually abandoned due to painful perineal incision, high rate of urinary dysfunction, and inability to perform lymph node assessment. However, this approach is still used and taught in a few centers outside its Austrian birthplace. In addition, a combined vaginal and laparoscopic approach, overcoming the flaws of the pure vaginal technique, was developed in the 1990s by French and German surgeons.2 After the publication of the Laparoscopic Approach to Cervical Cance...

Anatomic Laparoscopic Partial Hepatectomy of a Segment 4a B-Catenin Mutated Adenoma
CONCLUSION: Although a β-catenin mutated HCA in S4a does not necessitate a formal segmentectomy, understanding the anatomic structures outlining its borders can facilitate the resection, especially for a large HCA. Virtual hepatectomy helps to achieve a detailed comprehension of the complex borders of segment 4a. Preoperative embolization can firm up the tumor and minimize the risk of intraoperative rupture from manipulation.PMID:36752966 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-13106-1

Practice variation in the stepped care approach to idiopathic heavy menstrual bleeding: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Considerable practice variation exists among Dutch hospitals in the stepped care approach to idiopathic HMB. Improving adherence to this approach could improve quality of care and reduce costs.PMID:36746074 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.01.034

Complications of radical nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy: What are they? How can they be anticipated and managed?
CONCLUSION: Complications after partial and radical nephrectomy are quite frequent but have decreased with the improvement of surgical techniques. French urologists should maintain their interest in novel technologies and simplification of perioperative pathway to further improve patients' outcomes.PMID:36410865 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2022.09.011

Ergonomic Assessment of the Surgeon's Physical Workload During Robot-Assisted Versus Standard Laparoscopy in a French Multicenter Randomized Trial (ROBOGYN-1004 Trial)
CONCLUSIONS: RAL improves the perception of physical workload. Compared with SL, the perceived effort is lower in RAL regardless of the complexity of the surgery.PMID:36175710 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-022-12548-3

Hepatic Abscess Following Acute Appendicitis
Cureus. 2022 Jul 14;14(7):e26867. doi: 10.7759/cureus.26867. eCollection 2022 Jul.ABSTRACTThe authors present the case of a 29-year-old female diagnosed with acute appendicitis who underwent an uneventful laparoscopic appendectomy. Three weeks later, she returned to the emergency department with fevers, abdominal pain, chills, and nausea. Laboratory analysis revealed elevated liver enzymes and leukocytosis, and a computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed a liver abscess. Interventional radiology placed an 8 French drainage catheter in the hepatic abscess and drained 40cc of purulent fluid. A culture of the abscess f...
