Kinetics of metal and metalloid concentrations in holopelagic Sargassum reaching coastal environments
This study measures the kinetics of metal trace elements (MTE) in Sargassum reaching different coastal environments. In July 2021, over a period of 25 days, fixed experimental floating cages containing the three Sargassum morphotypes (S. fluitans III and S. natans I and VIII) were placed in three different coastal habitats (coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove) in Guadeloupe (French West Indies). Evolution of biomasses and their total phenolic content of Sargassum reveals that environmental conditions of caging were stressful and end up to the death of algae. Concentrations of 19 metal(loid) trace elements were analyzed and ...

Microplastics exposure and immunologic response
CONCLUSIONS: Unless the plastic value chain is transformed over the next two decades, the risks to species, marine ecosystems, climate, health, economy, and communities will be unmanageable. However, along with these risks are the unique opportunities to help transition to a more sustainable world.PMID:37695231 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i5.834

How international are the editorial boards in the field of hand research? A cross-sectional study of leading subspecialty hand journals
CONCLUSIONS: The EBMs of leading subspecialty hand journals are dominated by HIC with a very low representation of LMIC. There is a need to make the editorial boards more international in the field of hand research.PMID:37550717 | DOI:10.1186/s13018-023-04068-x

Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health (PEROSH) – Celebrating 20 years of collaboration
Conclusion Despite policy and practical efforts throughout Europe, occupational exposures resulting in health and safety challenges remains a considerable burden for the individual, society and the economy (5). If the challenges are to be met, it is essential to leverage scarce research funds, exchange knowledge and improve the evidence base for political priorities. Over the past 20 years, PEROSH has become an important platform for leveraging discussions and providing input to policymakers at the European level. by Nielsen SB, Schøning M, Laurent L, Meeuwsen JM. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4101

Is environmental sustainability transmissible? Transportation-based environmental taxation spillovers for sustainable development
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 May 31. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-27474-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnvironmental sustainability investigation has been a hotly debated topic of the modern literature; however, past studies have primarily overlooked its transmissibility or spillover outreach across economies. Herein, we investigate the novel aspect of whether transportation-based environmental taxation spatially induces spillover impacts across Italy, Germany, and France over the 1994-2020 period by employing a simultaneous spatial equation with multi-country dynamic stochastic general equilibrium modeling (DSGEM) framew...

Silkworm, science worm
C R Biol. 2022 Nov 10;345(3):35-50. doi: 10.5802/crbiol.94.ABSTRACTFrom 1865 to 1869, on a "government order", Louis Pasteur tackled a silkworm disease, the pebrine, which was ruining the economy of southern France. Well beyond the scientific results-he was going to highlight a second disease, the flacherie-and the operational results-he installed techniques to limit the progression of one disease and protected the farms from the other-, this sequence opened the door to what would become Pasteur's working method: a science involved in practice, a great importance given to the team of collaborators and to innovations of all...
