Aspartame and Phenylketonuria: an analysis of the daily phenylalanine intake of aspartame-containing drugs marketed in France
DISCUSSION: In situations requiring the use of these molecules, we propose as an alternative, the use of an aspartame-free form of these molecules or a form with a low Phe intake. If it is not possible, we propose as second-line the use of another antibiotics or analgesics. Finally, we have to remember the benefits-risk balance to use medications containing significant Phe intake in PKU patients. Indeed, it may be better to use a Phe containing medication in the absence of an aspartame-free form of this drug rather than to leave a person with PKU without treatment.PMID:37291632 | DOI:10.1186/s13023-023-02770-x

Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Community-acquired Urine Bacterial Isolates in French Amazonia
In conclusion, the most isolated microorganisms from outpatient urinalyses were E. coli and K. pneumoniae. They showed a high resistance rate to amoxicillin, but they were susceptible to the most remaining antibiotics. S. saprophyticus was isolated mainly in young women and was resistant to oxacillin in half of the cases. Interestingly, nitrofurantoin was active against most isolated organisms and can be considered as empirical treatment in uncomplicated UTIs.PMID:37011893 | DOI:10.4269/ajtmh.22-0242

Interest in the combination of antimicrobial therapy for orthopaedic device-related infections due to Enterococcus spp
CONCLUSIONS: The management of enterococcal ODRIs is complex, and ODRI patients are at high risk for relapse. In our small study, a better outcome was not demonstrated for patients with combination therapy and rifampicin use. Further studies are needed to improve the medico-surgical strategy for treating these infections.PMID:36988713 | DOI:10.1007/s00402-023-04848-4

Infectious encephalitis in elderly patients: a prospective multicentre observational study in France 2016-2019
CONCLUSION: Elderly patients represent > 50% of adults with encephalitis in France, with higher proportion of L. monocytogenes and VZV encephalitis, increased risk of death, and sequels. The empirical treatment currently recommended, aciclovir and amoxicillin, is appropriate for this age group.PMID:36152225 | DOI:10.1007/s15010-022-01927-3
