The impact of air pollution on physical disability in a middle-aged and older Chinese population using regression discontinuity design
Health Place. 2022 Dec 22;79:102958. doi: 10.1016/j.healthplace.2022.102958. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEmerging evidence has shown the association between ambient air pollution exposure and comorbid chronic diseases, which can subsequently impair physical function. However, less is known about the causal and contextual effect of air pollution on physical disability. Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), this study employs a geographical regression discontinuity design based on the Huai River Policy to estimate the impact of ambient air pollution on physical disability in activitie...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16345: Post-Stroke Experiences and Rehabilitation Needs of Community-Dwelling Chinese Stroke Survivors: A Qualitative Study
i Liang Stroke survivors encounter significant limitations in daily life activities and face increased risk of health complications such as stroke recurrence. Considering the escalating demand for personalised community rehabilitation services, this qualitative study was conducted to understand the current recovery experiences, needs, and expectations of community-dwelling stroke survivors. Fifty stroke survivors were recruited from two tertiary teaching hospitals and community centres in two provinces in mainland China. Semi-structured interviews were carried out, and participants were asked to describe their experien...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16173: Health Impacts of High BMI in China: Terrible Present and Future
ufeng Tao Temporal trends and future expectations of health effects due to high body mass index (BMI) remain uncertain in China. The trends of high-BMI-related death in China were evaluated and predicted until 2040 using data and methods from the Global Burden of Disease study. The absolute numbers and age-standardized rates of death and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were also calculated by age, gender, and cause. From 1990 to 2019, the high-BMI-related death percent, number and rate were all significantly increased in China, and death rate may exceed that globally in the next 10 years. High BMI caused more de...

Association between household air pollution from solid fuel use and risk of chronic diseases and their multimorbidity among Chinese adults
CONCLUSIONS: HAP from solid fuel use is associated with a high risk of chronic multimorbidity in Chinese adults. Our findings provide important implications for reducing chronic disease burden by restricting solid fuel use.PMID:36413929 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2022.107635

The burden of heat-related stroke mortality under climate change scenarios in 22 East Asian cities
CONCLUSIONS: Climate change will exacerbate the burden of heat-related stroke mortality but with considerable geographical heterogeneity in East Asia.PMID:36323066 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2022.107602

Greenspace exposure and poststroke disability: A nationwide longitudinal study
CONCLUSIONS: Increasing greenspace was inversely associated with mRS score. Greenspace planning can be a potential intervention to prevent poststroke disability.PMID:36265403 | DOI:10.1016/j.ecoenv.2022.114195

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 13344: Acute Gaseous Air Pollution Exposure and Hospitalizations for Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Time-Series Analysis in Tianjin, China
Conclusions: Short-term exposure to NO2, SO2, CO and O3 was not distinctly associated with daily hospitalizations for ischemic stroke in Tianjin. Multicenter studies in the future are warranted to explore the associations between gaseous pollution exposure and ischemic stroke.

Associations between short-term exposure of PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > constituents and hospital admissions of cardiovascular diseases among 18 major Chinese cities
This study aimed to investigate the association between short-term exposure of PM2.5 constituents and hospital admissions of CVD. Daily counts of city-specific hospital admissions for CVD in 18 cities in China between 2014 and 2017 were extracted from the national Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance database and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning Information Center database. Directly measured PM2.5 constituents, including ions and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, were collected by the Chinese Environmental Public Health Tracking system. We used the time-stratified case-crossover design to es...
