Stroke and (or) myocardial infarction attributable to modifiable risk factors in Henan, China
Estimating population attributable risks (PARs) of potential modifiable risk factors for stroke and (or) myocardial infarction (MI) may be useful for planning cardiovascular disease (CVD) preventive strategies. A population of 17292 adults aged 18 years and older from a cross-sectional survey were included in the study. The binary logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between risk factors with disease events, then population attributable fraction (PAF) according to prevalence and odds ratios were calculated to identify and compare the effects at different subpopulations.

Association of general and central adiposity with blood pressure among Chinese adults: results from the China National Stroke Prevention Project
Background: The American Heart Association concluded that waist circumference was a better predictor of blood pressure risk than BMI in Asians. However, data are inconsistent and information in Chinese, the largest global population group, is limited. Methods: Data was obtained from the Chinese National Stroke Prevention Project Survey of a nationally representative sample of middle-aged and older Chinese adults. A total of 135 825 individuals not taking any antihypertensive drugs were included in this study. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between blood pressure and par...

Blood pressure predictors of stroke in rural Chinese dwellers with hypertension: a large-scale prospective cohort study
Little was known about the different predictive power of blood pressure (BP) parameters (SBP, systolic BP; mean arterial pressure, MAP; pulse pressure, PP; and diastolic BP, DBP) and stroke incidence. This stu...

Contribution of WNT2B Genetic Variants to Ischemic Stroke Occurrence in a Chinese Han Population
Abstract: Wnt signaling pathway–related WNT2B gene was upregulated in ischemic brain damage. We aimed to assess the contribution of WNT2B genetic variant to ischemic stroke (IS) susceptibility in the Chinese Han population. Five polymorphisms including rs3790606, rs351364, rs3790608, rs12037987, and rs10776752 in WNT2B were genotyped using Agena MassARRAY platform in 476 healthy controls and 501 patients with IS. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) adjusted for age and gender were estimated by logistic regression analysis. Analysis of variance was used to evaluate the association between genotypes of WNT...

Relationship among atrial fibrillation, the CHA2DS2-VASc score and ischaemic stroke in patients with coronary artery disease: a propensity score matching study in Hebei, China
Recent evidence has shown that the pathogenesis of ischaemic stroke associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) is complex and involves other factors in addition to arrhythmias. The purpose of this study was to i...

Sex difference in the correlation between carotid artery diameter and prevalence of stroke: General insights from a Chinese population
The atherosclerotic process can cause compensatory enlargement of artery diameter. However, the association between common carotid artery (CCA) diameter and stroke remains unclear.

Fine-Mapping of the < em > PLCL2 < /em > Gene Identifies Candidate Variants Associated With Ischaemic Stroke Risk in Metabolic Syndrome Patients
Front Neurol. 2022 Jan 20;12:743169. doi: 10.3389/fneur.2021.743169. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTA genome-wide association study (GWAS) reported PLCL2 on chromosome 3p24. 3 (rs4618210:A>G) as a novel susceptibility locus for myocardial infarction in the Japanese population. As the most common pathological process, atherosclerosis leads to metabolic syndrome (MetS)-related ischaemic stroke (IS) and myocardial infarction. Hypothesizing that polymorphisms of the PLCL2 gene might be associated with the onset and prognosis of IS in MetS patients, we performed the following study in a Chinese Han population. A total of 709 cases...

Variant Rs556621 on Chromosome 6p21.1 and the Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Populations: A Meta-Analysis
Clin Appl Thromb Hemost. 2022 Jan-Dec;28:10760296221076479. doi: 10.1177/10760296221076479.ABSTRACTThere are inconsistencies in the published findings on the association of variant rs556621 in an intergenic region on Chromosome 6p21.1 with the risk of developing ischemic stroke (IS) and a major IS subtype (large artery atherosclerosis, LAA) in Chinese populations. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association of variant rs556621 with IS/LAA risk using ten studies involving 3644 IS cases and 3692 controls (including seven studies involving 2268 LAA cases and 2268 controls) from China. The AA genotype increased IS...
