Association and mediating mechanism between remnant cholesterol and first-ever stroke among the Chinese general population
CONCLUSION: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.PMID:37304024 | PMC:PMC10247974 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2023.1161367

Association of visit-to-visit variability in blood pressure and first stroke risk in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease
Conclusion: In hypertensive adults with mild-to-moderate CKD, visit-to-visit variability in BP was significantly associated with the risk of subsequent first stroke.

Elevated hs-CRP and Symptomatic Intracranial/Extracranial Artery Stenosis Predict Stroke Recurrence after Acute Ischemic Stroke or TIA
CONCLUSION: Symptomatic intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis was associated with increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke, stroke, and CVE at 1 year in patients with AIS or TIA, especially in patients with elevated hs-CRP levels. Asymptomatic intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis did not increase the risk of ischemic events compared with no artery stenosis regardless of hs-CRP levels.PMID:35934783 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63512

System-integrated technology-enabled model of care to improve the health of stroke patients in rural China: protocol for SINEMA--a cluster-randomized controlled trial
This study aims to develop a system-integrated technology-enabled intervention model of care (SINEMA) for the secondary prevention of stroke in rural China and to evaluate the effectiveness of the model compared with usual care.MethodsThe SINEMA model is being implemented and evaluated through a one-year cluster-randomized controlled trial in Nanhe County, Hebei Province in China. Fifty villages from five townships are randomized in a 1:1 ratio to either the intervention or the control arm (usual care) with a target to enroll 25 stroke survivors per village. Village doctors in the intervention arm 1) receive systematic cas...

The ACTB Variants and Alcohol Drinking Confer Joint Effect to Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Han Population.
CONCLUSIONS: ACTB rs852426 was significantly associated with alcohol consumption on stroke risk, and the expression of ACTB mRNA in IS who had a drinking habit was significantly down-regulated. This finding will provide a novel insight into the prevention of stroke. PMID: 31327802 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
