The Black Box of Patient Education: An Expert Consultation on Patient Education Interventions and Strategies for the Management of Subacromial Pain Syndrome
CONCLUSION: The consultation confirmed and expanded the knowledge from the literature by adding knowledge that emerged from the experts' practical experience. It resulted in the development of preliminary statements on structured patient education interventions and management strategies for SAPS. These emerging statements are, to our knowledge, the first to inform patient education specifically as it relates to the management of SAPS taking into account psychosocial and contextual factors.PMID:37736407 | PMC:PMC10510546 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2022-0123

Knee and overall health-related quality of life following anterior cruciate ligament injury: A cross-sectional analysis of Australian and Canadian cohorts
CONCLUSIONS Self-reported function was more relevant for knee-related QOL than knee pain or cartilage lesions after ACL tear. Self-reported function, pain, and knee structural changes were not associated with overall health-related QOL.PMID:37289467 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2023.11838

Post-COVID condition or “long COVID”, return-to work, and occupational health research
In conclusion, COVID-19 remains an important topic for the occupational health research agenda, including acute and post COVID conditions. Although there is still debate about the definition of what a `post-COVID condition` entails, the sheer number of patients who are not returning to work in a timely manner or returning to work with limitations, and the lack of research interventions available should lead occupational health practitioners and researchers to work not only to prevent infection but to prevent or reduce work disability resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and future pandemics. Acknowledgements and conflict...

Patient experience of chronic illness care and complementary integrative health use: a cross-sectional study of patients with hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS)
CONCLUSION: Individuals with HSD or EDS report low satisfaction with chronic illness care and commonly seek out complementary and self-administered therapies, likely in an attempt to manage symptoms. Respondents reported a desire for greater time and attention from physicians. Results from this study could educate the healthcare community to improve support mechanisms for HSD and EDS populations.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONPatients with hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) or Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) express a desire for patient-centered care and peer support from other individuals with HSD or EDS.Individuals wit...

Evolution of the thematic structure and main producers of physical therapy interventions research: A bibliometric analysis (1986 to 2017)
CONCLUSIONS: The thematic structure of physical therapy interventions has evolved over time with "neurological rehabilitation", "methods", "exercise related to lifestyle diseases", and "physical activity" becoming increasingly important. Main producers of this research were traditionally located in North America and Europe but now include countries like China and Brazil.PMID:35868161 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2022.100429

Canadian surveillance study of complex regional pain syndrome in children
This study describes the minimum incidence of pediatric complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), clinical features, and treatments recommended by pediatricians and pain clinics in Canada. Participants in the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program reported new cases of CRPS aged 2 to 18 years monthly and completed a detailed case reporting questionnaire from September 2017 to August 2019. Descriptive analysis was completed, and the annual incidence of CRPS by sex and age groupings was estimated. A total of 198 cases were reported to the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program, and 168 (84.8%) met the case definition. The m...
