Scoping Review of the Effectiveness of Screen-to-Screen-Therapy compared to Face-to-Face-Therapy on Naming Performance for Patients with Aphasia.
CONCLUSION: For many patients screen-to-screen-therapy is currently the only possibility to receive speech therapy treatment. Therefore it is a positive aspect that screen-to-screen-therapy is as effective as face-to-face-therapy. Screen-to-screen-therapy can provide expanded access to health care and professional expertise in health services. In this way, speech therapy care during the COVID-19 pandemic can be largely maintained. Further research is needed on evidence-based treatment methods and user-oriented apps for video therapy. Early impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on acute stroke treatment delays.
Abstract This is an observational cohort study comparing 156 patients evaluated for acute stroke between March 30th and May 31st 2020 at a comprehensive stroke center with 138 patients evaluated during the corresponding time period in 2019. During the pandemic, the proportion of COVID- 19 positive patients was low (3%), the time from symptom-onset to hospital presentation was significantly longer, and a smaller proportion of patients underwent reperfusion therapy. Among patients directly evaluated at our institution, door-to-needle and door-to-recanalization metrics were significantly longer. Our findings support ...

COVID-19: Stroke Admissions, Emergency Department Visits, and Prevention Clinic Referrals.
Abstract We assessed the impact of the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic on code stroke activations in the ED, stroke unit admissions, and referrals to the stroke prevention clinic at London's regional stroke center, serving a population of 1.8 million in Ontario, Canada. We found a 20% drop in the number of code strokes in 2020 compared to 2019, immediately after the first cases of COVID-19 were officially confirmed. There were no changes in the number of stroke admissions and there was a 22% decrease in the number of clinic referrals, only after the provincial lockdown. Our findings suggest that the dec...

Let Plants be Thy Medicine – You Are What You Eat
Credit: Busani Bafana/IPSBy Esther Ngumbi and Ifeanyi NsoforILLINOIS, United States / ABUJA, Oct 16 2019 (IPS) United Nations World Food Day is celebrated around the world on October 16 under the theme: “Our Actions ARE Our Future. Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World”. This theme is timely, especially, because across Africa and around the world, there has been a gradual rise in malnutrition and diet-related non communicable diseases, as highlighted in The Lancet study and a United Nations Report published earlier this year. While 45 percent of deaths in children are from nutrition-related causes, mainly malnu...
