Production and certification of BOTS-1: bovine muscle-certified reference material for incurred veterinary drug residues
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2023 Jun 16. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-04794-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA freeze-dried bovine muscle-certified reference material (CRM), known as BOTS-1 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.4224/crm.2018.bots-1 ), containing incurred residues of commonly used veterinary drugs was produced and certified for the mass fraction of eight veterinary drug residues. Value assignment was carried out using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods in conjunction with isotope dilution and standard addition approaches involving stable isotope internal standards. Data from the National Research Counci...

Real-world Outcomes With Cumulative Bortezomib Dose and Efficacy in the Treatment of Transplant-ineligible Multiple Myeloma With Cyclophosphamide, Bortezomib, and Dexamethasone
CONCLUSION: Higher cumulative bortezomib dose showed a lower rate of discontinuation, longer survival, and deeper response. Determining risk of treatment intolerance remains important for treatment.PMID:36396582 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2022.10.005

Characteristics, treatment and delirium incidence of older adults hospitalized with COVID-19: a multicentre retrospective cohort study
The objective of the present study was to describe patient characteristics, treatments and outcomes among older adults hospitalized with COVID-19, with a focus on dexamethasone use and delirium incidence.METHODS: We completed this retrospective cohort study at 7 sites (including acute care, rehabilitation and long-term care settings) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We included adults aged 65 years or older, consecutively hospitalized with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, between Mar. 11, 2020, and Apr. 30, 2021. We abstracted patient characteristics and outcomes from charts and analyzed them descriptively. We used a logistic r...

Dexamethasone prescribing for cancer pain between palliative care and radiation oncology
CONCLUSION: These findings show that dexamethasone prescriptions are habit-based and that prescribing habits are different between palliative care physicians and radiation oncologists. Interventions based on these findings could potentially prevent unequal patient care. Further qualitative investigations of physician perceptions are indicated to better understand habit-based corticosteroid prescribing patterns.PMID:35689675 | DOI:10.1007/s00520-022-07203-2

Diagnostic evaluation of insulin and glucose dynamics in light-breed horses receiving dexamethasone
CONCLUSION: Dexamethasone administration at 0.08 mg/kg, PO, q24h for 7 d worsened insulin dysregulation in adult light-breed horses based on findings of a basal insulin, OST, CGIT, and insulin sensitivity proxy measurements. There was none to moderate agreement between the basal insulin, OST, CGIT for the diagnosis of insulin dysregulation.CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Horses administered dexamethasone at a dose of 0.08 mg/kg, PO, q24h for 7 d should be considered insulin dysregulation and appropriate preventative strategies should be implemented. The variability of diagnostic performance of common tests for insulin dysregulation (b...
