What's on YOUR Facebook profile? Evaluation of an educational intervention to promote appropriate use of privacy settings by medical students on social networking sites.
CONCLUSIONS: A small but significant proportion of students share potentially unprofessional content on social media. An interactive educational intervention, which includes specific disclosure of how participants appear to others on social media, resulted in a significant change in student behavior. Prognosis: the "missing link" within the CanMEDS competency framework
Conclusions: Given the fundamental and foundational importance of prognosis within medical practice, it is recommended that physicians develop appropriate attitudes, skills and knowledge related to the formulation and communication of prognosis. The deficiencies within CanMEDS, demonstrated by this study, should be addressed in advance of the launch of its updated version in 2015.

Internists: Join R-SCAN to Optimize Medical Imaging and Earn CME, MOC Credit
Washington, DC — Internists certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) can now earn Practice Assessment Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credit and optimize medical imaging care by participating in theAmerican College of Radiology (ACR)Radiology Support, Communication and Alignment Network™ (R-SCAN) program. Through R-SCAN, internists collaborate with radiologists to select a topic from the ABIM Foundation’s Choosing Wisely® campaign for which there is potential toreduce unwarranted imaging and promote important discussions between clinicians and patients about what care is app...

Classic versus millennial medical lab anatomy
This study investigated the integration, implementation, and use of cadaver dissection, hospital radiology modalities, surgical tools, and AV technology during a 12‐week contemporary anatomy course suggesting a millennial laboratory. The teaching of anatomy has undergone the greatest fluctuation of any of the basic sciences during the past 100 years in order to make room for the meteoric rise in molecular sciences. Classically, anatomy consisted of a 2‐year methodical, horizontal, anatomy course; anatomy has now morphed into a 12‐week accelerated course in a vertical curriculum, at most institutions. Surface and radi...

Do All Roads to Full Participation? Examining Trajectories of Clinical Educators in Graduate Medical Education through Situated Learning Theory
Teach Learn Med. 2023 Aug 7:1-11. doi: 10.1080/10401334.2023.2230188. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhenomenon: As new faculty members begin their careers in Graduate Medical Education, each begins a journey of Professional Identity Formation from the periphery of their educational communities. The trajectories traveled vary widely, and full participation in a given educational community is not assured. While some medical school and post-graduate training programs may nurture Professional Identity Formation, there is scant support for faculty. To date, the trajectories that Graduate Medical Education faculty travel, what m...

Affordances of Knowledge Translation in Medical Education: A Qualitative Exploration of Empirical Knowledge Use Among Medical Educators
Conclusions: Affordances of the medical education practice environment influence empirical knowledge use. Developing strategies for effective knowledge translation thus requires careful assessment of contextual factors that can enable, constrain, or inhibit evidence use. Empirical knowledge use is most likely to occur among medical educators who are afforded rich, facilitative opportunities for participation in creating, seeking, and implementing knowledge.

Assessing the impact of 3D image segmentation workshops on anatomical education and image interpretation: A prospective pilot study
AbstractThree-dimensional (3D) segmentation, a process involving digitally marking anatomical structures on cross-sectional images such as computed tomography (CT), and 3D printing (3DP) are being increasingly utilized in medical education. Exposure to this technology within medical schools and hospitals remains limited in the United Kingdom. M3dicube UK, a national medical student, and junior doctor-led 3DP interest group piloted a 3D image segmentation workshop to gauge the impact of incorporating 3D segmentation technology on anatomical education. The workshop, piloted with medical students and doctors within the United...

Ultrasound in Pre-Graduate Medical Education.
In conclusion, ultrasound should be used systematically as an easily accessible and exciting educational tool in the curriculum of modern medical schools. Medical students should acquire theoretical knowledge of the modality and any hands-on training should adhere to evidence-based principles. Achieving real clinical competence in ultrasound requires extensive (post-graduate) training and is outside the scope of medical schools. PMID: 26069997 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Peer-assisted learning: filling the gaps in basic science education for preclinical medical students
In conclusion, this study shows that senior medical students can design and deliver a program that adds value to the mostly lecture-based formal preclinical curriculum. We hope that our study can prompt further work to explore the effect of PAL on the teaching of basic sciences during preclinical studies.
