Community-acquired acute meningitis and encephalitis: a narrative review.
Authors: Beaman MH Abstract Meningitis and encephalitis are medical emergencies. Patients need prompt evaluation and immediate empiric therapy to reduce the likelihood of fatal outcomes and chronic neurological sequelae. Conjugate bacterial vaccines have significantly reduced the incidence of bacterial meningitis, especially in children. As the results of changes in patterns of bacterial drug sensitivity, ceftriaxone is now part of the recommended empiric treatment for bacterial meningitis and should be administered as early as possible. Neuroimaging delays the treatment of meningitis and is not needed in most case...

Measles, mumps, and rubella: A cross-sectional study of susceptibility to vaccine-preventable diseases among young people in India
ConclusionSerological surveillance is important to monitor immune status in population. Susceptibility of young adults to measles, mumps, and rubella indicates need for booster vaccination. With the recent launch of measles-rubella vaccination campaign in India, country specific data will be required to plan periodicity of such campaign, which in turn would be based on accumulation of susceptible individuals in a community. Lastly, inclusion of mumps vaccine in the national universal immunization program needs consideration.

In a survey of 1009 participants in 2017, only 18% expressed high levels of confidence in the US health system, and in a 2014 survey of 1608 participants, only 31% indicated that they trusted public health officials to share complete and accurate information during disease outbreaks. Recent high-profile events —such as those involving health care companies like Purdue Pharmaceuticals, Johnson& Johnson, and Theranos; vaccine misinformation contribut...
