A literature review of hypertensive retinopathy: systemic correlations and new technologies
CONCLUSIONS: The eye is the only organ in the human body where changes in the blood vessels due to systemic hypertension can be studied in vivo. All doctors should be familiar with this disease because it has been largely demonstrated that signs of HR are correlated to patient's health and mortality. Researchers should develop a new common, standardized, and objective method to assess hypertensive retinal changes; new technologies may have a significant role in this field. This review takes most of the literature published so far, including the OCTA studies in order to stimulate new points of reference to standardize param...

How to plan and perform a diagnostic catheterisation in adult patients with congenital heart disease
Learning objectives Recognise the importance of an in-depth clinical assessment of each patient, including a complete surgical and medical history, prior to performing diagnostic cardiac catheterisation in patients with congenital heart disease. Understand the steps required to obtain accurate haemodynamics in patients with congenital heart disease. Identify pathology with high-quality angiograms in patients with congenital heart disease. Introduction The importance of a well-performed cardiac catheterisation in adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) cannot be overstated. Despite the modern-day diagnostic benefits of e...

ConclusionIn the case of unexpected recurrent venous thromboembolism in coronavirus disease 2019, especially when patients are taking rivaroxaban or other new oral anticoagulants, such drugs should be substituted by warfarin, with routine follow-up, to maintain the value of prothrombin time and international normalized ratio within the therapeutic range.

Application of postmortem computed tomography angiography to settle a medical dispute after aortic dissection surgery: a forensic case report
CONCLUSIONS: While many previous postmortem imaging case reports have shown positive results that provided evidence of medical malpractice, the current case excludes the possibility of physician negligence and reasonably settles the medical dispute from another perspective. In short, the PMCTA approach we describe here was an effective tool that can be applied to certain medical-related forensic cases.PMID:37596679 | PMC:PMC10439614 | DOI:10.1186/s13019-023-02353-8

Weekly Dose Reports: The Effects of a Continuous Quality Improvement Initiative on Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography Radiation Doses at a Tertiary Medical Center
In this study, we sought to evaluate the incremental value of real-time feedback via weekly dose reports on a busy cCTA service.Materials and Methods: This time series analysis consisted of 450 consecutive patients whom underwent physician-supervised cCTA for clinically indicated native coronary evaluation between April 2011 and January 2013, with 150 patients before the initiation of weekly dose report (preintervention period: April–September 2011) and 150 patients after the initiation (postintervention period: September 2011–February 2012). To assess whether overall dose reductions were maintained over time, results ...
