The SARS-CoV-2 receptor, Angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is required for human endometrial stromal cell decidualization.
Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) first appeared in December 2019 and rapidly spread throughout the world. The SARS-CoV-2 virus enters the host cells by binding to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE2). Although much of the focus is on respiratory symptoms, recent reports suggest that SARS-CoV-2 can cause pregnancy complications such as pre-term birth and miscarriages; and women with COVID-19 had maternal vascular malperfusion and decidual arteriopathy in their placentas. Here, we report that ACE2 protein is expressed in both endometrial epithelial and stromal cells in the proliferative phase of ...

EZH2 is essential for spindle assembly regulation and chromosomal integrity during porcine oocyte meiotic maturation †.
EZH2 is essential for spindle assembly regulation and chromosomal integrity during porcine oocyte meiotic maturation†. Biol Reprod. 2020 Nov 27;: Authors: Cai Q, Wen K, Ma M, Chen W, Mo D, He Z, Chen Y, Cong P Abstract Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) has been extensively investigated to participate in diverse biological processes, including carcinogenesis, the cell cycle, X-chromosome inactivation and early embryonic development. However, the functions of this protein during mammalian oocyte meiotic maturation remain largely unexplored. Here, combined with RNA-Seq, we provided evidence that EZH2 ...

Functional roles of the chromatin remodeler SMARCA5 in mouse and bovine preimplantation embryos
Biol Reprod. 2021 Apr 23:ioab081. doi: 10.1093/biolre/ioab081. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUpon fertilization, extensive chromatin reprogramming occurs during preimplantation development. Growing evidence reveals species-dependent regulations of this process in mammals. ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling factor SMARCA5 (also known as SNF2H) is required for peri-implantation development in mice. However, the specific functional role of SMARCA5 in preimplantation development and if it is conserved among species remain unclear. Herein, comparative analysis of public RNA-seq datasets reveals that SMARCA5 is universally expre...

Spastin interacts with CRMP5 to promote spindle organization in mouse oocytes by severing microtubules
Zygote. 2021 May 26:1-12. doi: 10.1017/S0967199421000344. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicrotubule-severing protein (MTSP) is critical for the survival of both mitotic and postmitotic cells. However, the study of MTSP during meiosis of mammalian oocytes has not been reported. We found that spastin, a member of the MTSP family, was highly expressed in oocytes and aggregated in spindle microtubules. After knocking down spastin by specific siRNA, the spindle microtubule density of meiotic oocytes decreased significantly. When the oocytes were cultured in vitro, the oocytes lacking spastin showed an obvious maturation disorde...

Thrombin impairs the angiogenic activity of extravillous trophoblast cells via monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1): A possible link with preeclampsia
In conclusion, we propose that thrombin-controlled MCP-1 secretion may play an essential role in normal placental development and successful pregnancy maintenance. Improper thrombin production and MCP-1 secretion during pregnancy might cause inadequate vascular formation and transformation of spiral arteries, which may contribute to pregnancy disorders, such as preeclampsia.PMID:34058707 | DOI:10.1016/j.repbio.2021.100516
