Effect of Postoperative Specific Immunotherapy Combined with Nasal Irrigation on Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Allergic Rhinitis
This study aimed to explore the effect of specific subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and nasal irrigation on CRSwAR after ESS. Sixty-four patients who were diagnosed as CRSwAR and received ESS were enrolled and divided into groups A, B, and C to receive different postoperative treatment strategies (conventional medication, medication with nasal irrigation, and medication with nasal irrigation and SCIT), and their prognosis was evaluated by scoring, electron microscopy, and inflammatory factors. One year after ESS, the recurrence rate of group C was significantly reduced; and the scoring from baseline was significantly diff...

Effects of implants with steroids after endoscopic sinus surgery: A systematic review with meta ‐analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionsCollectively, steroid implant decreases LKE and POSE among patients receiving ESS in the short term, but long-term effects remain unclear. Patient-based outcomes are worth further discussion in the future.

Central compartment atopic disease: outcomes compared with other subtypes of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
ConclusionRates of polyp recurrence and revision ESS were significantly lower in CCAD patients compared with patients with other CRSwNP subtypes, suggesting durable benefit of ESS and postoperative medical therapy in CCAD patients.

Evaluating the Role of Anesthesia on Intraoperative Blood Loss and Visibility during Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: A Meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: TIVA seemed to have superior intraoperative visibility scores and blood loss during endoscopic sinus surgery when compared to IA. However, the results are not consistent when stratifying the results based on the use of remifentanil and different inhaled anesthetics. Therefore, the conclusion cannot be made that one approach is superior to the other. PMID: 33478255 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea with transverse venous sinus stenosis: a retrospective matched case ‐control study
ConclusionIn this retrospective study, sCSF leaks were strongly associated with VSS. This novel finding provides a rationale for further investigation of the role of VSS in the onset of sCSF leaks and of the potential interest in venous stenting after the surgical repair of leaks.

Characterisation of patients with idiopathic olfactory dysfunction and plan for clinical follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients suffering from idiopathic OD were predominantly females with a long symptom duration. Only few of these patients suffered from allergies or sino-nasal pathologies. Patient history, the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test and threshold discrimination identification scores from the Extended Sniffin Sticks test are the most valuable clinical tools for diagnosing the aetiology behind OD. An ideal workup for idiopathic OD is presented. FUNDING: none. TRIAL REGISTRATION: not relevant. PMID: 33215598 [PubMed - in process]

Effects of Omalizumab Treatment in Patients With Recalcitrant Nasal Polyposis and Mild Asthma: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.
CONCLUSION: Omalizumab was effective for the treatment of patients with recalcitrant CRSwNP and mild asthma, even when AERD was present, by reducing NP size and improving QoL; treatment time was a key factor. SNOT-22 improvements were not explained by decreases in TPS, indicating that omalizumab may be effective in all patients, regardless of polyp size. PMID: 33153272 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Quality of Life Evaluation After Trans-Nasal Endoscopic Surgery for Skull Base Tumors.
CONCLUSION: Our results confirmed that the endoscopic transnasal approach shows excellent results not only in terms of surgical outcome, but also for the possibility of ensuring a good QoL after treatment. Recurrent surgery and radiation treatments were the most important negative prognostic factors. PMID: 33143452 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
