The relationship between longitudinal serum leptin measures and measures of magnetic resonance imaging-assessed knee joint damage in a population of mid-life women
Conclusions Leptin levels 10 years prior to MRI assessment were associated with the presence of cartilage defects, bone marrow lesions, osteophytes, meniscal tears, synovitis and effusion among a population of middle-aged women. Understanding the role that leptin plays in the joint degradation process is critical for development of more targeted interventions for osteoarthritis.

Juvenile recurrent parotitis in children: Diagnosis and treatment using sialography
Vanga V Narsimha Rao, Jai Shankar Homberhali Putta Buddi, Ameet J KurthukotiJournal of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry 2014 32(3):262-265Juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP) is a nonobstructive, nonsuppurative parotid inflammation in young children. Causative factors are many such as allergy, infection, local autoimmune manifestations, and genetic inheritance have been suggested, but none have been proved. Parotid sialography is a hallmark in the diagnosis of JRP but newer modalities such as ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging-sialography are noninvasive investigative te...

MRI-detected subclinical joint inflammation is associated with radiographic progression
Conclusions Radiographic progression was infrequent, but joints with subclinical inflammation had an increased risk of radiographic progression within year 1. This demonstrates the relevance of MRI-detected subclinical inflammation.

Endoscopic direct vessel closure in carotid artery injury
ConclusionDirect vessel closure is an effective endoscopic technique in ICA injury. It allows for visual confirmation of hemostasis and carotid flow and permits the surgeon to continue with surgery despite the complication. The novel design of the AnastoClip can maintain normal vessel patency as well as accommodate pulsatile flow.

Update on endoscopic endonasal resection of skull base meningiomas
ConclusionUsing a 2‐team approach, meningiomas of the skull base were successfully removed via an intranasal endoscopic technique. Although complete resection is typically possible even with large tumors, the lengthy resection required time for tumors larger than 60 cm3 (diameter ≥4 cm) may obviate some of the advantages of this approach. The rate of postoperative CSF leak decreases when a synthetic dural substitute is added but does not approach zero.

Magnetic resonance with diffusion weighted imaging: A new method to detect active lung inflammation in patients with primary antibody deficiencies
Recurrent respiratory infections and granulomas are hallmark of primary antibodies deficiencies (PAD). Because of the long life course of PAD, respiratory infections and chronic lung disease, PAD patients undergo to frequent radiological examinations. Since an increased radio sensitivity, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), a radiation free technique, represents a possible option to manage PAD comorbidities. Moreover, MRI with diffusion weighted imaging (DWI)might be using to study lung abnormalities. No previous DWI-MRI studies in PAD have been reported.Single center longitudinal study on18 PAD patients who underwent ch...

Role of Diffusion Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging in evaluation of hepatic focal lesions
Conclusion In conclusion, DW MRI alone performs equally well as Gd-MRI in detection and differentiation of different hepatic focal lesions. In cases where gadolinium injection is not allowed, dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging can be replaced by a protocol based on unenhanced T1 and T2 weighted imaging combined with DWI. Adding DWI to Gd-MRI is more accurate.

Evaluation of the olfactory bulb volume and olfactory threshold in patients with nasal polyps and impact of functional endoscopic sinus surgery: a longitudinal study
ConclusionThe results of our study show that FESS has a significant impact on OBV increment and olfactory threshold decrement. The olfactory bulb is a plastic structure and improvement in peripheral olfactory function results in increase in OBV. However, further studies are mandated, in order to establish this result.

State of the Art
Thymoma is the most common primary malignancy of the anterior mediastinum and the most common thymic epithelial neoplasm, but it is a rare tumor that constitutes less than 1% of adult malignancies. Computed tomography (CT) is currently the imaging modality of choice for distinguishing thymoma from other anterior mediastinal masses, characterizing the primary tumor, and staging the disease. However, magnetic resonance imaging is also effective in evaluating and characterizing anterior mediastinal masses and staging thymoma in patients with contraindications to contrast-material-enhanced CT such as contrast allergy and/or renal failure.

Sniffin’ Sticks and olfactory system imaging in patients with Kallmann syndrome
ConclusionThe present study provides further evidence of the strict relationship between olfaction and OB volume. The strong correlation between OB volume and the overlying cortical changes highlights the key role of rhinencephalon in forebrain embryogenesis.

EULAR recommendations for the use of imaging in the diagnosis and management of spondyloarthritis in clinical practice
A taskforce comprised of an expert group of 21 rheumatologists, radiologists and methodologists from 11 countries developed evidence-based recommendations on the use of imaging in the clinical management of both axial and peripheral spondyloarthritis (SpA). Twelve key questions on the role of imaging in SpA were generated using a process of discussion and consensus. Imaging modalities included conventional radiography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography, single photon emission CT, dual-emission x-ray absorptiometry and scintigraphy. Experts applied research eviden...

Management of the orbit during endoscopic sinonasal tumor surgery
ConclusionThis represents the largest series to date on endoscopic management of the orbit in benign and malignant sinonasal tumors. A majority of these cases can be managed by a purely endoscopic approach with low complication and recurrence rates, although a subset still require adjunct open approaches for successful tumor extirpation.

Development of an ASAS-endorsed recommendation for the early referral of patients with a suspicion of axial spondyloarthritis
The aim of this work was to develop a consensual recommendation under the auspices of the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) for early referral of patients with a suspicion of axial spondyloarthritis by non-rheumatologists. The development of a referral recommendation consisted of four phases: (1) systematic literature review, (2) the first Delphi round aiming at identification of unmet needs and development of a candidate list of referral parameters, (3) the second Delphi round aiming at identification of the most useful combination of referral parameters and (4) final discussion and formal endor...
