A Retrospective Study of Bone Level Stability Around 441 Mandibular and 350 Maxillary Molar Implants Placed with an Immediate Implant Protocol.
Authors: Wagenberg B, Froum SJ Abstract The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate bone level stability around 441 mandibular and 350 maxillary molar implants, placed using an immediate implant protocol, that had been in function from 2 to 17 years postrestoration (mean: 9.9 years). Independent radiographic measurements using the known distance between threads on the specific implant that was used indicated a mean bone loss of 0.27 ± 0.68 mm around maxillary implants and 0.27 ± 0.67 mm around mandibular implants. Maxillary implants showed a statistically significant (SS) difference in bone loss on th...

Endoscopic management of enteral tubes in adult patients – Part 2: Peri- and post-procedural management. European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Guideline
Endoscopy DOI: 10.1055/a-1331-8080ESGE recommends the “pull” technique as the standard method for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement.Strong recommendation, low quality evidence.ESGE recommends the direct percutaneous introducer (“push”) technique for PEG placement in cases where the “pull” method is contraindicated, for example in severe esophageal stenosis or in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) or esophageal cancer.Strong recommendation, low quality evidence.ESGE recommends the intravenous administration of a prophylactic single dose of a beta-lactam antibiotic (or appropriate alternat...

Treatment of naturally occurring asthma with inhaled fluticasone or oral prednisolone: A randomized pilot trial.
The objective of this study was to compare inhaled glucocorticoids with oral glucocorticoids for treatment of naturally occurring feline asthma. Secondary goals were to evaluate serum allergy testing results in cats and to quantify the effect of an inhaled glucocorticoid (fluticasone) on glucose homeostasis. Nine cats with asthma were enrolled on the basis of clinical signs, thoracic radiographic findings, and airway eosinophilia. Cats were randomized and 4 cats were treated with oral glucocorticoids and 5 cats with inhaled glucocorticoids, with a 7-day course of oral glucocorticoids overlapping at the start of therapy. Ca...

Similar rates of return to sports and BMI reduction regardless of age, gender and preoperative BMI as seen in matched cohort of hypoallergenic and standard Cobalt Chromium medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
ConclusionsBoth TiNbN and CoCr medial mobile-bearing UKA enabled patients to return to sports after the final follow-up, regardless of age, BMI, gender and metal sensitivity. These findings inform shared decision making and can help to manage patient expectations after surgery, in particular, in active patients with an overt metal allergy, a specific hypoallergenic implant should be considered the gold standard implant in partial knee replacement surgery.Level of evidenceCohort Study, Level III.Registration: researchregistry6250 —www.researchregistry.com.

A Mimic of Ankylosing Spondylitis, Ochronosis: Case Report and Review of the Literature
AbstractPurpose of ReviewOchronosis and alkaptonuria are manifestations of the same condition —a rare autosomal recessive disorder resulting from a constitutional lack of homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase (HGD) with the consequent accumulation of homogentisic acid (HGA). In ochronosis, HGA undergoes autoxidation as well as enzymatic oxidation to form an ochronotic pigment that accumulates in c artilage and connective tissues. In the beginning, there is homogentisic aciduria and pigmentation of cartilages and other connective tissues. In later years, generalized osteoarthritis of the spine and large joints, termed ochronotic ...
