Distinct Asthma Phenotypes among Older Adults with Asthma
Conclusions In older adults with asthma, distinct phenotypes vary on key features that are more pronounced among the elderly, including comorbidities, fixed airway obstruction, and duration of asthma ≥40 years. Further work is required to determine the clinical and therapeutic implications for different asthma phenotypes in older adults.

Allergic sensitization to laboratory animals is more associated with asthma, rhinitis and skin symptoms than sensitization to common allergens
Conclusion and Clinical RelevanceOccupational sensitization is associated with allergic symptoms and respiratory diseases. SPT with occupational allergens along with other parameters may contribute to detection of risk for allergic and respiratory diseases associated with exposure to laboratory animals. This article is protected by copyright. Diagnostic Accuracy of Urinary LTE4 Measurement to Predict Aspirin-Exacerbated Respiratory Disease in Patients with Asthma
Conclusions A set of typical clinical parameters has a superior accuracy in prediction of AERD diagnosis than the measurement of uLTE4 concentration alone. The addition of uLTE4 concentration to clinical parameters slightly enhances the prediction of AERD diagnosis, especially due to a high NPV.

P205 Experience with a simplified eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation (evh) device for diagnosis of exercise-induced bronchospasm
Exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) is defined as a transient narrowing of the airway after exercise with decline in FEV1 by at least 10%.The diagnosis of EIB is charactertistically determined by spirometry conducted after exercise or a surrogate challenge such as EVH.We review our experience in a private practice in allergy /immunology with simplified EVH.

Atopy Is Associated with Age at Asthma Onset in Elderly Patients
Conclusions Most elderly asthmatic patients followed up in our tertiary center were atopic and higher values of total serum IgE suggest atopy. Atopy was inversely correlated with age of asthma onset. The diagnosis of allergic asthma in the elderly population is essential to treat patients more properly, improving their quality of life and decreasing asthma morbidity and mortality.

The Value of Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide and Forced Mid-Expiratory Flow as Predictive Markers of Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness in Adults With Chronic Cough
Conclusions Small-airway dysfunction is present in patients with chronic cough and BHR. FEF25%-75% has value as a negative predictive parameter for BHR, especially when combined with FENO. FENO > 43 ppb and FEF25%-75% < 78.5% strongly predicted a positive bronchial provocation test.

Anticholinergics for asthma: a long history
Purpose of review To provide a fast overview about the introduction and development of anticholinergic drugs in Western medicine to their current indications particularly in asthma. Recent findings Although short-acting muscarinic antagonists have been positioned in the last 15 years for the treatment of adults and children with moderate-to-severe acute asthma in the emergency setting (reducing the risk of hospital admissions and improving lung function), a growing body of evidence has recently emerged that positions the long-acting muscarinic anticholinergic tiotropium bromide as add-on therapy to at least inhaled co...

Asthma and Allergic Disorders in Uganda: A Population-Based Study Across Urban and Rural Settings
Conclusions Asthma and allergic rhinitis were twice as prevalent in urban settings. Asthma was associated with greater impairment and worse lung function outcomes. We identified a high prevalence of allergic disorders in Uganda, which can be expected to increase due to urbanization and resultant exposures throughout early development.

Clinician Agreement, Self-efficacy, and Adherence with the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma
Conclusions Agreement with and adherence to asthma guidelines was higher for specialists than primary care clinicians, but was low in both groups for several key recommendations. Self-efficacy was a good predictor of guideline adherence among primary care clinicians but not among specialists.

Spirometry and Impulse Oscillometry in Preschool Children: Acceptability and Relationship to Maternal Smoking in Pregnancy
Conclusion There is a higher rate of acceptable maneuvers with spirometry compared with IOS, but IOS may be a better indicator of peripheral airway function in preschool children.

Exacerbations in adults with asthma: A systematic review and external validation of prediction models
Conclusion The preservation of three predictors in models derived from variable populations and the fairly consistent predictive properties of most models in two distinct validation populations suggest the feasibility of a generalizable model predicting severe exacerbations. Nevertheless, improvement of the models is warranted as predictive performances are below the desired level.
