Implementation of a short-term treatment protocol in anemic patients before cardiac surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Despite some differences compared to previously described protocols, the implementation of a perioperative treatment protocol for anemic patients was associated with a reduction in PRBC transfusion in a real-world setting.PMID:37709298 | DOI:10.1055/a-2176-2218

Food texture and vitamin D influence mouse mandible form and molar roots
Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1002/ar.25315. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIndustrialization influenced several facets of lifestyle, including softer nutrient-poor diets that contributed to vitamin D deficiency in post-industrzialized populations, with concomitantly increased dental problems. Here we simulated a post-industrialized diet in a mouse model to test the effects of diet texture and vitamin D level on mandible and third molar (M3) forms. Mice were raised on a soft diet with vitamin D (VitD) or without it (NoD), or on a hard diet with vitamin D. We hypothesized that a VitD/hard diet is optimal for norma...

Serum vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk of γδ T cell exhaustion in HBV-infected patients
In this study, we found that the frequency of circulating Vδ2+ T cell and serum levels of vitamin 25(OH)D3 were significantly decreased in patients with HBV. And serum 25(OH)D3 levels in HBV-infected patients were negatively correlated with HBV DNA load and PD-1 expression on γδ T cells. Interestingly, 1α,25(OH)2 D3 alleviated the exhaustion phenotype of Vδ2 T cells in HBV-infected patients and promoted IFN-β expression in human cytotoxic Vδ2 T cells in vitro. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that vitamin D plays a pivotal role in reversing γδ T-cell exhaustion and is highly promising target for ameliorati...
