Safety and Efficacy Balance of Baked Milk and Egg Oral Immunotherapy
Opinion statementPurpose of review There is a subgroup of individuals with egg or cow ’s milk (CM) allergy that can tolerate heated egg or CM. Thermal processing has been shown to affect antigen allergenicity either directly by denaturation of significant epitopes, or indirectly by synergistically altering their susceptibility to the digestion process under specific pH conditions. CM and egg proteins have heat labile molecules that become hypoallergenic after thermal treatment. The allergenicity may be further reduced when the CM and egg allergens are interacting with wheat proteins, and in particular gluten, in an inter...

Allergen component analysis as a tool in the diagnosis and management of occupational allergy
Publication date: Available online 9 April 2018 Source:Molecular Immunology Author(s): Monika Raulf We are now in the epoch of “molecular allergology” and numerous clinically relevant allergenic molecules are available improving the performance of in vitro allergen tests and allergen detection methods. This review is focusing on characterized occupational allergens and their implementation into the in vitro diagnosis for occupational allergy and in allergen detection methods. More than 400 occupational agents are identified and documented as being ‘respiratory sensitizers’, but currently only a limited number of t...

Safety of Low-Dose Oral Food Challenges for Hen's Eggs, Cow's Milk, and Wheat: Report from a General Hospital without Allergy Specialists in Japan
Kobe J Med Sci. 2023 May 24;69(1):E16-E24.ABSTRACTAn oral food challenge (OFC) is useful for managing food allergies. However, because OFCs have the risk of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, conducting OFCs under this situation without allergy specialists is difficult. To investigate the safety of a low-dose OFC for eggs, milk, and wheat in a general hospital without allergy specialists. We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of children who were hospitalized in a general hospital without allergy specialists for a low-dose OFC of egg, milk, or wheat between April 2018 and March 2021. The records of...
