Study on acute respiratory infection in children aged 1 year to 5 years-A hospital-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The studies regarding factors influencing ARI are relatively rare in an urban setting, thus this calls for more studies in urban areas. Health education can change the healthcare-seeking behavior and attitude of parents for preventing ARI-related deaths. Family physicians can play a significant role by educating caregivers of children and giving timely services. Promoting and ensuring exclusive breastfeeding practices, timely weaning after 6 months, and avoidance of bottle feeds can dramatically decrease the episodes of ARI.PMID:37312761 | PMC:PMC10259544 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1748_22

Factors associated with incomplete vaccination and negative antibody test results for measles, mumps, and hepatitis A among children followed in the MINA-BRAZIL cohort
In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency of vaccine adherence, factors associated with incomplete vaccination for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and hepatitis A, and factors associated with the seronegative test results for measles, mumps and hepatitis A at 2 years of age. This was a population-based cohort that addressed health conditions and mother/infant nutrition in Cruzeiro do Sul city, Brazil. Vaccination data were obtained from official certificates of immunization. The children underwent blood collection at the two-year-old follow-up visit; the samples were analyzed using commercially available kits to m...

Potential Impacts of Mass Nutritional Supplementation on Measles Dynamics: A Simulation Study
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2022 Sep 12:tpmd211083. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.21-1083. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe bidirectional interaction between undernutrition and infection can be devastating to child health. Nutritional deficiencies impair immunity and increase susceptibility to infection. Simultaneously, infections compound undernutrition by increasing metabolic demand and impairing nutrient absorption. Treatment of acute malnutrition (wasting) can reverse some of its deleterious effects and reduce susceptibility to infectious diseases. Nutrition-specific approaches may be packaged with other interventions, including immuniza...

Research priorities to increase vaccination coverage in Europe (EU joint action on vaccination)
CONCLUSIONS: We have developed a transparent, evidence-based rigorous framework to defined key research questions to generate evidence towards the design of policies and strategies to increase vaccine coverage. Results were disseminated broadly and submitted to the EC for potential funding in the context of The Horizon Europe Program. The same process will be conducted in 2021 to identify vaccination research priorities regarding all vaccines used in the EU as well as COVID-19 vaccines.PMID:34598823 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.09.033

Measles Specific Immunoglobulin G Response in Children Aged 4-12 Year Who Received Two Doses of Measles Containing Vaccine in Infancy
CONCLUSIONS: Less than one-seventh of children immunized with two doses of measles vaccine in infancy had measles-specific IgG below protective levels at the average age of 7.5 yr. Lack of exclusive breast feeding till 5 months of age, under-nutrition and anemia were the associated factors.PMID:33713061
