Assessment of adherence and asthma medication ratio (AMR) for a once-daily and twice-daily inhaled corticosteroid/long acting beta agonist (ICS/LABA) for asthma
ConclusionsAdherence and treatment persistence were low in both cohorts, however, patients initiating once-daily FF/VI were more likely to be adherent, have an AMR ≥0.5, and were less likely to discontinue therapy compared with patients initiating twice-daily BUD/F. (GSK Study HO1617302/206482)

Assessment of Adherence and Asthma Medication Ratio for a Once-Daily and Twice-Daily Inhaled Corticosteroid/Long-Acting β-Agonist for Asthma
ConclusionsAdherence and treatment persistence were low in both cohorts; however, patients initiating once-daily FF/VI were more likely to be adherent, have an AMR of greater than or equal to 0.5, and were less likely to discontinue therapy compared with patients initiating twice-daily BUD/F (GlaxoSmithKline Study HO1617302/206482).

Omalizumab treatment patterns among patients with asthma in the US Medicare population
ConclusionOver 60% of Medicare patients with asthma continued and were adherent to omalizumab over 12-month follow-up. Patient age, LIS status, and the numbers of evaluation and management physician visits were among factors associated with treatment adherence and discontinuation.

Race and Asthma Outcomes in Older Adults: Results from the National Asthma Survey
ConclusionsRacial differences in asthma outcomes persist despite controlling for multiple social determinants of health and access to health insurance through Medicare. Minority patients were more likely to visit the ER but less likely to report frequent daytime symptoms. These findings indicate that comprehensive strategies to address assessment, monitoring, and treatment are needed to decrease health disparities.

The Future of Health Care - A Look Forward for the Allergist
It comes as no surprise that the delivery and payment for healthcare services in the United States is constantly changing. Recently, the federal government through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Innovation (CMMI) was instructed to work toward value-based healthcare delivery models.1 CMMI was developed to address these challenges through creativity and innovation.2 The allergy-immunology specialty is small (less than 6,000 physicians), but our perspective of our nation's healthcare delivery system may be instructive for all of medicine as we adapt to these and other disruptive changes in healthcare.

Medication Adherence in Medicare Enrolled Older Adults with Asthma Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSION: Adherence to asthma controller medications significantly decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic among Medicare enrolled patients with asthma. Patients with markers for more severe asthma, overuse of albuterol, and a 90-day supply of controller medications were more likely to have high adherence. These findings can be used to identify opportunities to improve adherence and prescribing among adult patients with asthma.PMID:35227901 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.02.010

A National Cancer Database Analysis of Sinonasal Malignant Myoepithelial Carcinoma Outcomes
DISCUSSION: MECA of the sinonasal cavity is a rare tumor with poorly understood behavior. Data from the NCDB suggests that it is a relatively aggressive tumor with surgical management associated with better outcomes. This analysis is limited by the small sample size and further research into optimal treatment regimens is needed.PMID:35971225 | DOI:10.1177/19458924221121419
