Sociodemographic and medical characteristics of liver cirrhosis deaths in a Ghanaian tertiary hospital
CONCLUSION: Deaths from cirrhosis at the hospital were mostly of young males with chronic hepatitis B infection. Implementation of hepatitis B prevention and treatment guidelines can help reduce cirrhosis deaths.FUNDING: None declared.PMID:37575631 | PMC:PMC10416286 | DOI:10.4314/gmj.v56i4.4

Antioxidants and Calcium Modulators Preclude in Vitro Hepatitis B Virus-Induced Mitochondrial Damage
CONCLUSIONS: Current study indicates that the mitochondrial fragmentation induced by hepatitis B virus infection can be reduced after antioxidant treatment pointing toward exploring better drug targets for the prevention of hepatitis B virus-induced mitochondrial frag- mentation and associated liver damage.PMID:37565795 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.21290

Direct and crowding-out effects of a Hepatitis B vaccination campaign
Econ Hum Biol. 2023 Jul 23;51:101279. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2023.101279. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe evaluate the direct and spillover causal effects of a Hepatitis B (HB) vaccination campaign in French schools on the vaccination adherence of the targeted pupils. Using a regression discontinuity design, we show that this campaign created an exogenous shock on vaccination behavior, increasing the HB vaccination rate for children aged 11 and above. At the same time, we show a drop in the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination rate of the targeted pupils and an increase in the parental belief that measles is a benign...

A comparison of health policies, public opinion and vaccination rates in France and Germany
ConclusionsThe state of vaccine confidence seemed to correlate with immunisation rates in both countries. The need for information about vaccines is still high in both countries and trust in the medical community as well as in the immunisation policymakers should be reinforced as a priority.

Mapping the timeliness of routine childhood vaccination in The Gambia: A spatial modelling study
CONCLUSIONS: Our approach provides decision-makers with a valuable tool to better understand local patterns of untimely childhood vaccination and identify districts where strengthening vaccine delivery systems could have the greatest impact.PMID:37563051 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.08.004
