Molecular characterization of extended-spectrum β-lactamases among clinical isolates of Escherichia coli & Klebsiella pneumoniae: A multi-centric study from tertiary care hospitals in India.
This study was undertaken to investigate the molecular profile and resistance patterns of ESBLs among clinical isolates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae at four tertiary care centres in India. Methods: Clinical isolates of E. coli and K. pneumoniae were collected from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry; Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, over one and a half year period. Antimicrobial susceptibi...

Turgut Ozal University Faculty of Medicine 6th International Student Congress.
Abstract Turgut Ozal University Scientific Research Committee (TOBAT) was established in Turgut Ozal University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 to encourage young medical students and scientists to carry out novel scientific research in addition to their medical education in order to 1) establish a platform of informing the latest advancements in science, 2) present this work to colleagues and 3) meet and interact with their peers within the international medical and scientific community. Our committee annually organizes Turkey's most highly-qualified medical student congress with the highest number of presenters and ...

Use of Lactobacillus spp. to Prevent Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Females
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common bacterial infections seen in the community, especially amongst females. The widespread use of antibiotics has led to the increased occurrence of E. coli resistant isolates worldwide. A promising non-antibiotic approach is the use of probiotic lactobacilli strains. This paper hypothesizes that Lactobacillus spp. containing products are able to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections in females. Using the keywords [lactobacillus OR lactobacilli OR probiotic] and [urinary tract infection OR UTI OR cystitis], a preliminary search on the PubMed, Ovid, Google Scholar and Cli...

Antibiotic-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in healthy gut flora: A report from north Indian semiurban community.
This study was conducted to find the faecal presence of antibiotic-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in faecal samples in the community in north India. Methods: In this prospective study, 207 stool samples were collected from apparently healthy individuals residing in a semiurban community in Chandigarh, India, from August to October, 2015. Isolates belonging to family Enterobacteriaceae were identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), and antibiotic susceptibility was determined using Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute disc diffusion method. Detection o...

Application of a solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/metal oxide sensor system for detection of antibiotic susceptibility in urinary tract infection-causing Escherichia coli - A proof of principle study
CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study showed the potential of VOC analysis using SPME combined with a GC-MS/MOS system for the early detection of CTX-M-producing, antibiotic-resistant E. coli, responsible for urinary tract infections (UTIs).PMID:34562855 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2021.09.001

Comparison of truncated human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) expression in pET28a(+) versus pET-SUMO vector and two Escherichia coli strains
CONCLUSION: In the present study, we showed that different versions of recombinant hACE2 are successfully expressed in E. coli BL21(DE3) by using pET-SUMO expression system.PMID:36746060 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2023.01.001

Aetiology of hospital-acquired diarrhoea in under-five children from an urban hospital in East Delhi, India
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study suggest that the aetiological profile of hospital-acquired diarrhoea appears to be similar to that of community-acquired diarrhoea, with DEC and Cryptosporidium being the most common causes. The efforts for the prevention and management of hospital-acquired diarrhoea should, thus, be directed towards these organisms.PMID:36926779 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.IJMR_4138_20
