Board #237 - Program Innovation Improve Simulation Education Efficiency: Using Asynchronous Education to Achieve Simulation-based Mastery Learning (Submission #9242).
Conclusion: Successful implementation of AE within the rigors of SBML should improve education efficiency. Such an approach can be adopted by other institutions with similar goals, not only in UME, but also other educational formats. Our methods addressed the design objective to use asynchronous education for knowledge acquisition prior to faculty face time for material application. This "flipped" classroom model in which students acquire didactic material from asynchronous sources as homework frees-up class time for application and critical thinking. The "flipped" classroom has successfully transformed higher-education le...

The “structure” of the medical school of the future
With the advent of dramatic changes in how medicine is taught —from active learning to interprofessional education—medical schools are now rethinking the design of their buildings and classrooms as well. Learn how the University of North Dakota (UND) approached building the medical school of the future for its new School of Medicine& Health Sciences (SMHS), completed this summer. UND SMHS started its patient-centered learning curriculum nearly 20 years ago. The school has had a required course in interprofessional education (IPE) since 2006, and in 2012 it added team-based learning to the curriculum.“As a school of ...

Education case report: CAMPEP Medical Physics PhD education program within Engineering
J Appl Clin Med Phys. 2023 May 21:e14037. doi: 10.1002/acm2.14037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMedical physics doctoral programs have large variations in organization, administration and financing. Blending a medical physics stream into an engineering graduate program has advantages of pre-existing financial and educational infrastructures. A case study of the accredited program at Dartmouth was carried out, analyzing operational, financial, educational and outcome features. The support structures provided by each institutional partner were outlined, including engineering school, graduate school, and radiation oncology. ...

The Value of Supporting Education Research in the Academic Environment: The Hospital for Special Surgery Academy of Rheumatology Medical Educators
Problem Medical education academies have been instrumental in providing greater recognition of and promotion for clinician–educators. However, producing education scholarship is essential for clinician–scholar–educator career advancement. Grant funding for education research and protected time to produce scholarship are still lacking for interested physicians, in part due to institutional budget constraints and competing priorities. Approach The Hospital for Special Surgery Academy of Rheumatology Medical Educators was founded in 2011 to promote education scholarship through grants awarded to educators int...

The Rheumatology Research Foundation Clinician Scholar Educator Award: Fifteen Years Promoting Rheumatology Educators and Education
Conclusions We describe the creation and evolution of a grant program from a medical subspecialty society foundation and the impact on producing education research, individual identity formation and ongoing support for educators. This community of rheumatology scholar educators now serves as an important resource at the national level for the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and its membership. We believe that this grant may serve as a model for other medical societies that want to promote education scholarship and leadership within their specialties. This article is protected by copyright. Rigor and reproducibility instruction in academic medical libraries
CONCLUSIONS: Reproducibility education by medical librarians can take many forms. These specific programs in reproducibility education build upon libraries' existing collaborations, with funder mandates providing a major impetus. Collaborator needs shaped the exact type of educational or other reproducibility support and combined with each library's strengths to yield a diversity of offerings based on capacity and interest. As demand for and complexity of reproducibility education increases due to new institutional and funder mandates, reproducibility education will merit special attention.PMID:36589297 | PMC:PMC9782585 | ...
