Referral patterns and no-show rates at an outpatient pediatric allergy/immunology clinic
Previous studies have demonstrated improved quality of life for patients with chronic rhinitis and asthma when cared for by an allergist compared with general practitioners.1,2 Pediatric allergists predominantly evaluate patients in an outpatient setting in private practice or academic centers, most of which are located within metropolitan areas and can limit accessibility to rural locations. We conducted a retrospective review of the electronic medical records (EMRs) of patients referred for initial consultation at our outpatient allergy–immunology pediatric clinic located in a tertiary care academic referral center.
