The burden of adult asthma in a high GDP per capita country: the QASMA study.
CONCLUSION: The very high gross domestic product per capita in Qatar and the high health expenditure per capita do not seem to have led to better asthma care and control. A comprehensive national asthma service improvement program is much needed. PMID: 25240334 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Trends in Specific Immunotherapy for Allergic Rhinitis: A Survey of Chinese ENT Specialists.
CONCLUSIONS: Most cases showed that the opinions of Chinese ENT specialists appeared to be in agreement with recent SIT progress and international guidelines; however, many areas still need to enhance the standardization and use of SIT in China. Clinical guidelines for SIT require improvement; in addition, Chinese ENT specialists need continuing medical education on SIT. PMID: 24991452 [PubMed]

Patient-physician communication about work-related asthma: what we do and do not know.
CONCLUSION: A small proportion of patients with asthma might communicate with a health professional about asthma associated with work. Future studies should examine whether patients with asthma ever discussed with a health professional the possibility that their asthma might be related to work to provide information on the frequency of patient-clinician communication about asthma related to work. Prevalence of nasal polyps and its risk factors: Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009-2011.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of NPs in the Korean general population was not low despite advances in medical and surgical treatment and two thirds of the subjects with NPs were asymptomatic. Further investigation is needed to exhibit the causal relationship between the associated risk factors identified and NPs. PMID: 25590312 [PubMed - in process]

Three-Year Follow-up Results of Sublingual Immunotherapy in Patients With Allergic Rhinitis Sensitized to House Dust Mites.
CONCLUSIONS: Allergic symptoms significantly decreased after 1 year of SLIT treatment, and this effect was sustained after 2 or 3 years of treatment. By increasing compliance through patient education, the 3-year use of SLIT for house dust mite allergies may be effective in the management of allergic rhinitis. PMID: 25729618 [PubMed]

A World Allergy Organization international survey on physical activity as a treatment option for asthma and allergies
Conclusions The results of this global survey indicate that clinicians working in the field of allergy and respiratory diseases are well aware of the evidence supporting the benefits of physical activity for asthma and allergic diseases although they need more training in such counseling. Therefore, concerted efforts are needed towards educating clinicians towards promoting physical activity and weight management, as a supplementary treatment for asthma and allergies.

Active management of food allergy: an emerging concept
IgE-mediated food allergies are common and currently there is no cure. Traditionally, management has relied upon patient education, food avoidance and the provision of an emergency medication plan. Despite this, food allergy can significantly impact on quality of life. Therefore, in recent years, evolving research has explored alternative management strategies. A more active approach to management is being adopted, which includes early introduction of potentially allergenic foods, anticipatory testing, active monitoring, desensitisation to food allergens and active risk management. This review will discuss these areas in turn.

Association between asthma self-management knowledge and asthma control in the elderly.
CONCLUSION: Knowledge of asthma was very low in elderly patients and usual asthma care was largely insufficient. These findings suggest that asthma education programs should be developed for older adults based on their education level and clinical asthma characteristics. Relationship between in utero C-reactive protein levels and asthma in at-risk children.
CONCLUSION: Prenatal CRP levels are associated with asthma by year 3 and wheezing in year 3 within a high-risk, urban, mostly Mexican, cohort. Maternal systemic inflammation might reflect a prenatal environment that could increase offspring susceptibility to develop wheezing and asthma young in life. GIS-based Association Between PM10 and Allergic Diseases in Seoul: Implications for Health and Environmental Policy.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings imply that PM10 effects on allergic diseases might not be consistent throughout Seoul. GIS-based spatial modeling techniques could play a role in evaluating spatial variation of air pollution impacts on allergic diseases at the sub-district level, which could provide valuable guidelines for environmental and public health policymakers. Toxocara Canis IgG Seropositivity in Patients with Chronic Urticaria.
In this study, 73 patients diagnosed with CU and 109 healthy individuals as control group, were included. Various factors such as sex, age, education and income, daily hand washing habits, history of dog owning and soil eating were questioned in patient anamnesis. T. canis IgG antibodies were detected using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit prepared with T. canis larval excretory-secretory antigens. Positive results were confirmed with western blot (WB) WB test.We found T. canis IgG positivity in 17.8% (n=13) of patients (n=73) with CU. But we did not observe any T. canis IgG positivity in healthy controls (...
