Development of a medical academic degree system in China.
Conclusion The future education reforms might include: 1) a domestic system of 'credits' that gives weight to quality clinical experience vs. academic publications in career advancement, enhanced harmonisation between the competing streams of the professional degree and the RTP, and promotion of mobility of staff between areas of excellence and areas of need; 2) International - a mutual professional and academic recognition between China and other countries by reference to the Bologna Accord, setting up a system of easily comparable and well-understood medical degrees. Translating medical school social missions to student experiences
ConclusionWhether a medical school's social mission is focused on equity of access to the medical profession or on its graduates serving particular community needs, the mission principles need to be translated into practice. This translation process involves a series of externalisation and internalisation steps, each of which determines how much and what aspects of the mission are translated.

Graduate Medical Education Funding and Curriculum in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: A Survey of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department Chairs
This national survey highlights graduate medical education funding sources for physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) residency programs as well as perceived funding stability, alignment of the current funding and educational model, the need of further education in postacute care settings, and the practice of contemporary PM&R graduates as perceived by PM&R department/division chairs. Approximately half of the reported PM&R residency positions seem to be funded by Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services; more than 40% of PM&R chairs believe that their residency program is undersized and nearly a quarter feel at risk...

Medical student mistreatment: understanding 'public humiliation'.

Preparing fourth year medical students to care for patients with opioid use disorder: how this training affects their intention to seek addiction care opportunities during residency
CONCLUSIONS: A 2-hour interactive case-based teaching session delivered to medical students improved perceived knowledge, attitudes, and future interest in obtaining education around OUD. As the opioid epidemic shows no sign of abating, we would advocate for the inclusion SUD education as part of Transition to Residency courses.PMID:36333902 | DOI:10.1080/10872981.2022.2141602

Some Musings on the Fate of Graduate Medical Education
Graduate medical education (GME) in the United States is under siege. The status quo is not sustainable and the way it was in the past will not be the way it will be in the future. The purpose of the paper is not to relive the history of GME in the United States, but to assess the current status and propose an alternative solution which might affect not only the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the American Board of Medical Specialists, but also the Accrediting Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the various boards that certify individual practitioners.

A survey of factors influencing career preference in new-entrant and exiting medical students from four UK medical schools
Conclusions: This is the first multi-centre study exploring students' career preferences and preference influences upon entry into and exit from undergraduate medical degree programmes. We found various factors influenced career preference, confirming prior findings. What this study adds is that, while acknowledging student intake differs by medical school, medical school itself seems to influence career preference. Comparisons across medical school populations must therefore control for differences in input [the students] as well as context and process [the medical school] when looking at output [e.g., performance]. A rob...
