Antibiogram of multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from clinical specimens at King Hussein Medical Centre, Jordan: a retrospective analysis.
This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and the local antibiogram of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates in Al-Hussein Hospital at King Hussein Medical Centre in Amman, Jordan. In a retrospective study from January to December 2013, data on 116 non-repetitive positive clinical samples were retrieved from patients' laboratory records. The resistance rates of A. baumannii isolates were high for ceftriaxone, cefotaxime and ticarcillin (100%), ceftazidime, cefepime and piperacillin (98.3%), imipenem (97.4%), piperacillin/tazobactam (96.6%), quinolones (94.8%), ampicillin/sulbactam (89.7%), gentami...

Characterisation of clinical manifestations of and treatment strategies for invasive beta-haemolytic streptococcal infections in a Swiss tertiary hospital.
CONCLUSIONS: Invasive beta-haemolytic streptococcal infections, the most severe presentation of which is NF, remain a serious clinical issue and require rapid diagnosis and treatment. This is the first representative analysis monitoring clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with a severe invasive beta-haemolytic streptococcal infection and treated in Zurich, Switzerland. In addition to the detailed reporting of various clinical and microbiological characteristics, we show that C-reactive protein levels, acute renal failure and distributive shock were higher in the patients with NF. We also found a low ca...

Clinical relevance and antimicrobial susceptibility profile of the unknown human pathogen < em > Corynebacterium aurimucosum < /em >
Conclusion. C. aurimucosum should be considered as an actual opportunistic pathogen, and treatment with amoxicillin, vancomycin or linezolid should be preferred.PMID:33734955 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001334

Comparative study of multidrug-resistant < em > Enterococcus faecium < /em > obtained from different hosts
Conclusion. The level and range of antimicrobial resistance and the panel of resistance determinants is comparable between E. faecium isolates, despite host species.PMID:33750516 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001340

Resistance to nitrofurantoin is an indicator of extensive drug-resistant (XDR) < em > Enterobacteriaceae < /em >
Conclusion. Nitrofurantoin resistance could be an indicator of the XDR phenotype among Enterobacteriaceae, harbouring multiple AMR and efflux pump genes. Tigecycline and colistin are the only antibiotics that could be used in the treatment of such XDR infections. A deeper understanding of the co-resistance mechanisms in XDR pathogens and prescription of AST-based appropriate combination therapy may help mitigate this problem.PMID:33830906 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001347

Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of < em > Burkholderia cepacia < /em > complex & amp; < em > Stenotrophomonas maltophilia < /em > from North India: Trend over a decade (2007-2016)
CONCLUSIONS: While Bcc showed increased resistance to ceftazidime, meropenem and minocycline, S. maltophilia maintained >80 per cent susceptibility to minocycline, levofloxacin and co-trimoxazole throughout the decade. By 2016, Bcc was most susceptible to co-trimoxazole, whereas S. maltophilia was most susceptible to minocycline and levofloxacin.PMID:34145106 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.IJMR_9_19
