Metformin inhibits self-renewal of colorectal cancer stem cells by inhibiting mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation
CONCLUSION: Metformin reduces mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and ROS levels by inhibiting mitochondrial complex Ⅰ, thereby suppressing Wnt signaling pathway to reduce selfrenewal ability of colorectal CSCs.PMID:37712263 | PMC:PMC10505579 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2023.08.03

Families face battle with GSK over dangerous diabetes drug
Exclusive: Pharmaceutical giant resists claims despite settlement with victims in USThousands of families in the UK could be deprived of compensation for the death or harm of a relative caused by the diabetes drug Avandia, even though the British maker has agreed to pay billions of dollars to settle similar claims in the US.The licence for Avandia was revoked in Europe, in September 2010, because of evidence that it could cause heart failure and heart attacks. The drug can still be prescribed in the US, but not to patients at risk of heart problems.A scientist with the Food and Drug Administration estimated that Avandia co...

The Toxicology Investigators Consortium Case Registry-The 2012 Experience.
Abstract In 2010, the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) established its Case Registry, the Toxicology Investigators Consortium (ToxIC). All cases are entered prospectively and include only suspected and confirmed toxic exposures cared for at the bedside by board-certified or board-eligible medical toxicologists at its participating sites. The primary aims of establishing this Registry include the development of a realtime toxico-surveillance system in order to identify and describe current or evolving trends in poisoning and to develop a research tool in toxicology. ToxIC allows for extraction of data ...

Effect of bariatric surgery combined with medical therapy versus intensive medical therapy or caloric restriction and weight loss on glycemic control in ZDF rat.
Conclusions: RYGB and SG significantly improved glycemic control in a rodent model of advanced T2DM. Whilst short-term outcomes are similar, long-term efficacy appears marginally better after RYGB although this is tempered by the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Abstract C19: Assessing metformin use and ovarian cancer survival from electronic medical records
Conclusions: We found that ovarian cancer cases with metformin use had marginally better overall survival than both T2D cases not taking metformin and all ovarian cancer cases. While not significant, these associations indicate that metformin may have utility clinically repurposed as a treatment for ovarian cancer. Finally, high agreement between MedEx captured and natural language processing assisted manually curated metformin use indicates that MedEx captured metformin use can be used in larger EMR studies.Citation Format: Leshaun Clayton, Spencer Keene, Samantha P.
