Predictors and biomarkers of food allergy and sensitization in early childhood
CONCLUSION: The current body of evidence emphasizes the first 1000 days of life as a critical time period for FA development. More observational studies and adequately powered clinical trials spanning early pregnancy through childhood are needed to identify novel biomarkers and risk factors that can predict susceptibility towards or protection against FA.PMID:35490857 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.04.025

Association of maternal anti‐HLA class II antibodies with protection from allergy in offspring
ConclusionThis study suggests that the ‘birth order’ effect in children may be due to parity‐related changes in the maternal immune response to foetal antigens. We have observed for the first time an association between maternal anti‐HLA class II antibodies and protection from allergy in the offspring. Further work is required to determine immunologically how HLA disparity between mother and father can protect against allergy.

Prenatal food allergen exposures and odds of childhood peanut, tree nut, or sesame seed sensitization.
CONCLUSION: Neither maternal infertility nor exposure to PN or SS oils through progesterone support during assisted reproduction treatment was associated with increased odds of PN/TN/SS sensitization in the child. However, maternal ingestion of TNs and SS during pregnancy was associated with increased odds of PN/TN/SS sensitization in the child. PMID: 24125147 [PubMed - in process]

Peanut allergy is common and can be a cause of severe, life-threatening reactions. It is rarely outgrown like other food allergies such as egg and milk. Measures aiming to reduce its prevalence via maternal avoidance during pregnancy and lactation, or delayed introduction into the diet, have failed to show any benefit. Almost half of pregnant women had past history of allergic disease in Japan from a nationwide birth cohort study. A lot of babies are born with genetically high risk of allergy. Penicillin Allergy Evaluation in Pregnancy Impacts Antibiotic Utilization and Neonatal Clinical Outcomes
Penicillin (PCN) allergy is commonly reported, but many are erroneously labeled. Pregnancy is associated with high antibiotic usage, with indications including prophylaxis for surgical Caesarean section delivery and group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization, a leading cause of neonatal sepsis. PCN allergy evaluation has the potential to significantly impact both maternal and neonatal clinical outcomes, however, proactive drug allergy evaluations during pregnancy remain underutilized.

Implementing a referral protocol for penicillin allergy testing of pregnant women
Recent American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) guidelines advocate for the safety of penicillin allergy testing in pregnant women. Penicillin allergy de-labeling allows for preferred peripartum antibiotic therapy for Group B Streptococcus (GBS) prophylaxis and reduces IV antibiotics and neonatal ICU (NICU) care for newborns. Yet, there remains widespread hesitance to perform penicillin allergy testing on pregnant women.

Does maternal fermented dairy products consumption protect againts from cow's milk protein allergy in toddlers?
