Statins Reduce Bleeding Risk in Patients Taking Oral Anticoagulants for Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: A Retrospective Registry Study
ConclusionsStatins significantly reduced the risk of major bleeding, all-cause mortality, and ischemic events in patients with NVAF taking OACs. Their additive benefits should be considered in routine practice and thus be further researched.

Relationship Between Direct Oral Anticoagulant Doses and Clinical Outcomes in Elderly Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation - ANAFIE Registry Sub-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Inappropriate low DOAC doses (under- or off-label dose) were not associated with stroke/SEE or major bleeding but were associated with all-cause death.PMID:37482411 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0143

Predicting Macro- and Microvascular Complications in Type 2 Diabetes: The Japan Diabetes Complications Study/the Japanese Elderly Diabetes Intervention Trial risk engine.
CONCLUSIONSThe risk engine accurately predicts macro- and microvascular complications and would provide helpful information in risk classification and health economic simulations. PMID: 23404305 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prospective observational study in elderly patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: Rationale and design of the All Nippon AF In the Elderly (ANAFIE) Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: The ANAFIE Registry will provide a valuable database for the clinical status, management, and outcomes of mortality, stroke, systemic embolism, and hemorrhagic events with/without anticoagulation in the increasing population of elderly NVAF patients, and will identify risk factors associated with these clinical events. Three-Year Clinical Outcomes Associated With Warfarin vs. Direct Oral Anticoagulant Use Among Japanese Patients With Atrial Fibrillation - Findings From the SAKURA AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: A high follow-up rate allowed us to obtain reliable data on the status of OAC use and therapeutic outcomes among AF patients in Japan. Warfarin and DOACs appear to yield equivalent 3-year stroke and all-cause mortality rates, but DOACs appear to reduce the risk of major bleeding. PMID: 30078823 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Percutaneous WATCHMAN Left Atrial Appendage Closure for Japanese Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation at Increased Risk of Thromboembolism - First Results From the SALUTE Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The procedural safety and 6-month results from the SALUTE trial demonstrated that the LAA closure device was safe and effective, similar to the results of large-scale randomized clinical trials, and provides a novel perspective of LAA closure for Japanese patients with NVAF in need of an alternative to long-term oral-anticoagulation. Risk Profile and 1-Year Outcome of Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation in Japan - Insights From GARFIELD-AF.
CONCLUSIONS: GARFIELD-AF continues to provide important information on the homogeneity and heterogeneity of baseline characteristics and treatment patterns in patients with newly diagnosed NVAF. This diversity reflects the differences in outcomes in Japan compared with the rest of the world. PMID: 30518731 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Outcomes of Off-Label Dosing of Direct Oral Anticoagulant Therapy Among Japanese Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Identified From the SAKURA AF Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical outcomes were not worse for under-dose than for standard-dose users among patients with different backgrounds. Over-dose users, however, were at higher risk for all clinical events and required careful follow-up. Further studies are needed to clarify the safety and effectiveness of off-label DOAC dosing in Japan. PMID: 30726797 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Real-world outcomes of rivaroxaban treatment in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and worsening renal function.
CONCLUSIONS: No association between WRF and occurrence of any bleeding, major bleeding, and stroke/systemic embolism/myocardial infarction was observed in patients with AF on rivaroxaban treatment during 1-year follow-up in real-world clinical practice. Impact of body mass index on real-world outcomes of rivaroxaban treatment in Japanese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
In conclusion, the high incidence of thromboembolic events and all-cause mortality in patients who were underweight highlights that thorough evaluation of disease status and comorbidities may be required in this population.
