Prevalence, clinical profile, and stroke risk of atrial fibrillation in rural Andhra Pradesh, India (the ap-af study)
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of AF is lower in this study compared to studies from the developed countries. Non-rheumatic cardiovascular risk factors were the causes for AF. Non-adherence to stroke prophylaxis is a major threat that needs to be addressed.PMID:35257736 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2022.02.002

The Indian consensus guidance on stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: An emphasis on practical use of nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants.
Abstract The last ten years have seen rapid strides in the evolution of nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). For the preparation of this consensus, a comprehensive literature search was performed and data on available trials, subpopulation analyses, and case reports were analyzed. This Indian consensus document intends to provide guidance on selecting the right NOAC for the right patients by formulating expert opinions based on the available trials and Asian/Indian subpopulation analyses of these trials. A section has been dedicated to the curren...

Thrombectomy with or without Bridging Thrombolysis for Anterior System Stroke
Conclusions: In this study, BT seems to yield better clinical and procedural outcomes with lower complication rates than d-MT. These findings may support the additional value of intravenous alteplase in anterior system strokes. Further large-scale, prospective, randomized-controlled studies will clarify the gray lines in this consensus, but this paper is important for reflecting the real-world data in developing countries.

Acute ischemic stroke treatment using mechanical thrombectomy: A study of 137 patients
Conclusion: MT is safe treatment and equally effective for both AC and PC LVO. With careful patient selection, clinical outcome in PC was comparable to AC despite delayed presentation and higher baseline NIHSS.

Is Acute Ischemic Stroke Really Associated with Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction ? A Case-Control Study
Conclusions: Our study concluded that the prevalence of LVSD was the same in AIS patients and controls matched for age, sex, and AF prevalence, although the prevalence of LVSD was indeed higher in AIS patients without AF than in controls without AF.

Dabigatran - the First Approved DTI for SPAF.
Authors: Trailokya A, Hiremath JS Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is commonly occurring arrhythmia in clinical practice. AF is easy to recognize but difficult to treat. Stroke is the most devastating complication of AF and is associated with a huge disease burden on the society. Effective stroke prevention is a priority for patients with AF. Two-thirds of strokes due to AF are preventable with suitable anticoagulant therapy. VKA like warfarin, acenocoumarol remains the gold standard for stroke prevention in AF (SPAF). However, it is associated with numerous limitations such as a high risk of drug-drug, drug-food ...

Migraine and Vascular Risk: An Update
Conclusion: Although the absolute effect of migraine on 'vascular risks' is small, good practice parameters dwell on treating and reducing existing cardiovascular risk factors through lifestyle modification, encouraging smoking cessation, and advocating the wise use of agents like ergot alkaloids and oral contraceptives, after a risk-benefit analysis.

Do baseline characteristics and treatments account for geographical disparities in the outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation? The prospective GARFIELD-AF registry
Conclusion The variability in outcomes across countries for patients with newly diagnosed AF is not accounted for by baseline characteristics and antithrombotic treatments. Residual mortality rates were correlated with Healthcare Access and Quality indices. The findings suggest the management of patients with AF needs to not only address guideline indicated and sustained anticoagulation, but also the treatment of comorbidities and lifestyle factors. Trial registration number NCT01090362.
