Global variations in the prevalence, treatment, and impact of atrial fibrillation in a multi-national cohort of 153  152 middle-aged individuals
ConclusionsLarge variations in AF prevalence occur in different regions and countries grouped by income level, but this is only partially explained by traditional AF risk factors. Antithrombotic therapy is infrequently used in poorer countries despite the high risk of stroke associated with AF.

Improving Anticoagulant Treatment Strategies of Atrial Fibrillation Using Reinforcement Learning
AMIA Annu Symp Proc. 2021 Jan 25;2020:1431-1440. eCollection 2020.ABSTRACTIn this paper, we developed a personalized anticoagulant treatment recommendation model for atrial fibrillation (AF) patients based on reinforcement learning (RL) and evaluated the effectiveness of the model in terms of short-term and long-term outcomes. The data used in our work were baseline and follow-up data of 8,540 AF patients with high risk of stroke, enrolled in the Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Registry (CAFR) study during 2011 to 2018. We found that in 64.98% of patient visits, the anticoagulant treatment recommended by the RL model were conc...

Importance of attributes and willingness to pay for oral anticoagulant therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation in China: A discrete choice experiment
by Jiaxi Zhao, Hao Wang, Xue Li, Yang Hu, Vincent K. C. Yan, Carlos K. H. Wong, Yutao Guo, Marco K. H. Cheung, Gregory Y. H. Lip, Chung-Wah Siu, Hung-Fat Tse, Esther W. Chan BackgroundAdherence to oral anticoagulant therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in China is low. Patient preference, one of the main reasons for discontinuation of oral anticoagulant therapy, is an unfamiliar concept in China. Methods and findingsA discrete choice experiment (DCE) was conducted to quantify patient preference on 7 attributes of oral anticoagulant therapy: antidote (yes/no), food –drug interaction (yes/no), frequency of blo...

Safety and efficacy of low-dose non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants versus warfarin after left atrial appendage closure with the Watchman device
CONCLUSION: The safety and efficacy of low-dose dabigatran and rivaroxaban were comparable to those of warfarin within 45 days after Watchman device implantation in a Chinese population.PMID:34740490 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2021.10.015

Prevalence of recommended anticoagulation by guidelines preadmission and its impact on the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and in-hospital outcomes after AMI in atrial fibrillation patients
This study was designed to explore the prevalence of recommended anticoagulation by guidelines before admission and its impact on the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and the AMI associated in-hospital outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). 10,725 patients with AF at their first hospitalizations in our hospitals were retrospectively reviewed, with a prevalence of recommended anticoagulation preadmission 24.41% (Number = 2618). They had lower risk of AMI incidence (Adjusted OR 0.66, 95%CI 0.54 –0.81, p <  0.001) compared to those without recommended anticoagulation after multivariate logist...

Impact of Low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels on Outcomes in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Results from the China Atrial Fibrillation Registry Study
CONCLUSIONS In patients with NVAF using standard or no lipid-lowering medication, low plasma LDL-C levels were related to an increased risk of stroke/thromboembolism and cardiovascular mortality.PMID:35418552 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.934747

Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China 2021: An Updated Summary
Biomed Environ Sci. 2022 Jul 20;35(7):573-603. doi: 10.3967/bes2022.079.ABSTRACTIn 2019, cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounted for 46.74% and 44.26% of all deaths in rural and urban areas, respectively. Two out of every five deaths were due to CVD. It is estimated that about 330 million patients suffer from CVD in China. The number of patients suffering from stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, pulmonary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, lower extremity artery disease and hypertension are 13.00 million, 11.39 million, 8.90 million, 5.00 million, 4.87 million, ...
