Advancements in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Focused Update
Medicina (Kaunas). 2021 Jul 14;57(7):711. doi: 10.3390/medicina57070711.ABSTRACTTranscatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become the leading technique for aortic valve replacement in symptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis with conventional surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) now limited to patients younger than 65-75 years due to a combination of unsuitable anatomies (calcified raphae in bicuspid valves, coexistent aneurysm of the ascending aorta) and concerns on the absence of long-term data on TAVI durability. This incredible rise is linked to technological evolutions combined with increased opera...

One-year outcomes of the pivotal clinical trial of a balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve implantation in Japanese dialysis patients
CONCLUSIONS: TAVR using SAPIEN 3 is safe and effective for the treatment of Japanese dialysis patients with symptomatic severe aortic valve stenosis.PMID:34348863 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.07.006

Stroke Severity in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
An assessment of the comparative incidence of fatal or disabling stroke may influence choice of intervention for patients with severe aortic stenosis. We explored whether transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is associated with a lower incidence of fatal or disabling stroke, compared to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR).

Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma in an Adult Patient with Complex Congenital Heart Disease
We report the case of a 27-year-old man who developed sudden upper back pain with no specific precipitant. Five days later, he visited our emergency department complaining of weakness in both lower limbs and dysuria. He had a history of intracardiac repair and a Blalock-Park procedure for an interrupted aortic arch and ventricular septal defect in infancy. Additionally, he had undergone an aortic root dilatation and aortic valve replacement at the age of 10 because of progression of aortic and supra-aortic stenosis and had received chronic anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy with warfarin and aspirin, respectively. An...
