Effect of anticoagulant therapy in COVID-19 patients
CONCLUSION: Analysis of the literature showed that there was insufficient evidence to answer our objective on the effect of anticoagulation on outcome in COVID-19 patients, especially due to the low scientific quality of the described studies. Randomised controlled studies are needed to answer this question.PMID:33861430 | PMC:PMC8050812 | DOI:10.1007/s12471-021-01574-7

Health-related quality-of-life questionnaires for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism: A systematic review on questionnaire development and methodology
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2021 Jul 14;5(5):e12556. doi: 10.1002/rth2.12556. eCollection 2021 Jul.ABSTRACTTo improve the quality and accuracy of the patient-reported outcome measures that assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL), guidelines have been developed to standardize the development and validation process. Considering the increasing importance of HRQoL questionnaires in research, we set out to review the literature and evaluate whether existing questionnaires developed for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) fulfill state-of-the-art requirements. The literature search was conducted in March 2...

The lived experience of women with a bleeding disorder: A  systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Women with bleeding disorders experience major negative impacts of their disorders on daily life and mental well-being. Many of the challenges identified in earlier research are evident in more recent studies.PMID:35141459 | PMC:PMC8813663 | DOI:10.1002/rth2.12652

Venous Thromboembolism Rate in Patients With Bladder Cancer According to the Type of Treatment: A Systematic Review
Cureus. 2022 Mar 8;14(3):e22945. doi: 10.7759/cureus.22945. eCollection 2022 Mar.ABSTRACTBladder cancer (BC) is classified as a high-risk tumour type for venous thromboembolism (VTE). VTE presents an extra challenge in the management of patients with cancer, given the increase in morbidity and mortality on having both conditions. To summarise the contemporary evidence on the VTE rate in patients with BC according to the stage, type of anti-cancer treatment and highlight VTE rate in the UK and other countries. A systematic review was carried out, and an electronic search for publications between January 2000 and November 20...

Risk of thromboembolism in patients with COVID-19 who are using hormonal contraception
CONCLUSIONS: There are no comparative studies assessing risk of thromboembolism in COVID-19 patients who use hormonal contraception, which was the primary objective of this review. Very little evidence exists examining the risk of increased COVID-19 disease severity for combined hormonal contraception users compared to non-users of hormonal contraception, and the evidence that does exist is of very low certainty. The odds of hospitalization for COVID-19 positive users of combined hormonal contraceptives may be slightly decreased compared with those of hormonal contraceptive non-users, but the evidence is very uncertain as ...

Tranexamic acid for the reduction of bleeding during functional endoscopic sinus surgery
CONCLUSIONS: There is moderate-certainty evidence to support the beneficial value of topical or intravenous tranexamic acid during endoscopic sinus surgery with respect to surgical field bleeding score. Low- to moderate-certainty evidence suggests a slight decrease in total blood loss during surgery and duration of surgery. Whilst there is moderate-certainty evidence that tranexamic acid does not lead to more immediate significant adverse events compared to placebo, there is no evidence regarding the risk of serious adverse events more than 24 hours after surgery. There is low-certainty evidence that tranexamic acid may no...

The Association Between Antioxidants and COVID-19 Outcomes: a Systematic Review on Observational Studies
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Feb 25:1-17. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03588-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is proven that the blood concentration of antioxidants can impress the severity of viral infections, including COVID-19. However, the lack of a comprehensive study accumulating existing data regarding COVID-19 can be perceived. Therefore, this systematic review is aimed to report the association between the blood concentration of several antioxidants and the overall health condition of COVID-19 patients. We summarized the available data surrounding the serum antioxidant level in COVID-19 patients and COVID-19 outcomes. ...

Prevalence of selected bleeding and thrombotic events in  persons with hemophilia versus the general population: A scoping review
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2022 Dec 9;7(1):100007. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2022.100007. eCollection 2023 Jan.ABSTRACTLife expectancy for persons with hemophilia has increased over recent decades due to advances in treatment practice and patient care. Those with hemophilia are now more likely to be affected by conditions associated with aging, such as myocardial infarction, hemorrhagic/ischemic stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and intracranial hemorrhage. Here, we describe the results of a literature search designed to summarize current data on the prevalence of the above selected bleeding and thrombotic events ...
