Carotid Endarterectomy Following Intravenous Thrombolysis in the UK
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pre-operative intravenous thrombolytic therapy (ivTT) on short term outcomes after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) among patients who presented with ischaemic stroke.

Warfarin Treatment Is Associated to Increased Internal Carotid Artery Calcification
Conclusions: Long-lasting warfarin anticoagulation associated with increased calcification of carotid atherosclerotic plaques, particularly in locations known to be the predilection sites of stroke-causing plaques. The clinical significance of this novel finding warrants further investigations.

We would like to thank Lazarides et  al in their letter to the editor regarding our report “Literature Review of Primary versus Patching versus Eversion as Carotid Endarterectomy Closure.”1 We agree with most of their comments. However, we did include a meta-analysis by Texakalidis et al.2 They had performed a meta-analysis of r andomized trials comparing bovine pericardium and other patch materials for carotid endarterectomy (CEA), which showed that the incidence of 30-day stroke, myocardial infarction, wound infection, death, cranial nerve injury, carotid artery thrombosis, and death were comparable.

Immediate postoperative interventional therapy for neurologic salvage when cerebral thromboembolism complicates carotid endarterectomy
In this study,we report three patients in our institution who received immediate post-operative interventional therapy for neurological salvage, in the setting of cerebral embolism after CEA.PMID:34957793 | DOI:10.31083/j.rcm2204158

Plaque Evaluation by Ultrasound and Transcriptomics Reveals BCLAF1 as a Regulator of Smooth Muscle Cell Lipid Transdifferentiation in Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Plaque echogenicity correlated with enrichment of distinct molecular pathways and identified BCLAF1, previously not described in atherosclerosis, as the most significant gene. Functionally, BCLAF1 seems necessary for survival and transdifferentiation of SMCs into a macrophage-like phenotype. The role of BCLAF1 in plaque vulnerability should be further evaluated.PMID:35321563 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317018
