NO/cGMP/PKG pathway in platelets:the therapeutic potential of PDE5 inhibitors in platelet disorders
J Thromb Haemost. 2022 Aug 11. doi: 10.1111/jth.15844. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlatelets are the "guardians" of the blood circulatory system. At sites of vessel injury, they ensure hemostasis and promote immunity and vessel repair. However, their uncontrolled activation is one of the main drivers of thrombosis. To keep circulating platelets in a quiescent state, the endothelium releases platelet antagonists including nitric oxide (NO) that acts by stimulating the intracellular receptor guanylyl cyclase (GC). The latter produces the second messenger cyclic guanosine-3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) that inhibits platelet ac...

Apixaban for Anticoagulation after Robotic Mitral Valve Repair
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation with apixaban after minimally invasive robotic MVRep is safe and has similar rates of bleeding and thromboembolism compared to patients treated with warfarin.PMID:35973484 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.07.045

Factor eight inhibiting bypass activity for refractory bleeding in acute type A aortic dissection repair: A propensity-matched analysis
We report our experience in utilizing FEIBA in ATAAD repair.STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A retrospective review was undertaken of all consecutive patients who underwent repair of ATAAD between July 2014 and December 2019. Patients were divided into two groups, dependent upon whether or not they received FEIBA intraoperatively: "FEIBA" (n = 112) versus "no FEIBA" (n = 119). From this, 53 propensity-matched pairs of patients were analyzed with respect to transfusion requirements and short-term clinical outcomes.RESULTS: Thirty-day mortality for the entire cohort was 11.7% (27 deaths), not significantly different between patient...

Proximalization of Frozen Elephant Trunk Procedure: Zone 0 or 1 versus Zone 2 or 3 Arch Repair
Conclusion Compared with zone 2/3, proximalization of FET using zone 0/1 for anastomosis was associated with better early outcomes and comparable rates of midterm aorta-related events. To substantiate its use, more research on this approach is required. Annexins and cardiovascular diseases: Beyond membrane trafficking and repair
Front Cell Dev Biol. 2022 Oct 14;10:1000760. doi: 10.3389/fcell.2022.1000760. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide. The main cause underlying CVD is associated with the pathological remodeling of the vascular wall, involving several cell types, including endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and leukocytes. Vascular remodeling is often related with the development of atherosclerotic plaques leading to narrowing of the arteries and reduced blood flow. Atherosclerosis is known to be triggered by high blood cholesterol levels, which in the presence o...

Use of Secondary Iliac Branch Devices after Previous Endovascular Abdominal and Thoraco-Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair < sup > † < /sup >
CONCLUSION: Secondary IBD after EVAR is a safe and effective procedure with high technical success and low complication rates. The technique of choice to revascularise the IIA seems to not affect early and follow up results. Long term durability of IBD repair is acceptable with low rates of IIA re-interventions.PMID:36707020 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.033
