Platelets and neutrophils cooperate to induce increased NETosis in JAK2V617F myeloproliferative neoplasms
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that JAK2V617F neutrophils alone are not sufficient to promote thrombosis; rather, platelets cooperate with neutrophils to promote NETosis in vivo. A new role for aspirin in thrombosis prevention in MPNs was also identified.PMID:37678548 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2023.08.028

Serotonin secretion by blood platelets: accuracy of high-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical technique compared with the isotopic test and use in a clinical laboratory
CONCLUSION: HPLC-ECD assay for platelet serotonin secretion is highly accurate, has advantages over the reference 3H-5-HT test, and is suitable as a clinical laboratory technique.PMID:37601022 | PMC:PMC10439442 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102156

Prophylactic anticoagulants for non-hospitalised people with COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: We found low- to moderate-certainty evidence from five RCTs that prophylactic anticoagulants result in little or no difference in major bleeding, DVT, need for hospitalisation, or adverse events when compared with placebo or no treatment in non-hospitalised people with COVID-19. Low-certainty evidence indicates that prophylactic anticoagulants may result in little or no difference in all-cause mortality when compared with placebo or no treatment, but moderate-certainty evidence indicates that prophylactic anticoagulants probably reduce the incidence of VTE and PE. Low-certainty evidence suggests that comparing...

Preferred monotherapy after short-term dual antiplatelet therapy: Systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized trials
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with aspirin monotherapy following short-term DAPT, ticagrelor following 3-month DAPT was associated with a reduced risk of primary bleeding outcomes without increasing any ischemic outcomes.PMID:37562542 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.08.001

The effect of thrombocytapheresis on hemogram and biochemistry parameters in patients with essential thrombocytemia
CONCLUSION: The use of thrombocytapheresıs in patients with essential thrombocytosis causes a rapid decrease in platelet values as well as an effect on hemogram and biochemistry parameters. Other hemogram and biochemistry parameters such as platelet value should be monitored in patients.PMID:37558046 | DOI:10.1016/j.tracli.2023.08.001

Secondary thrombocythemia with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction as the first manifestation: a case report
CONCLUSION: After a thorough analysis of the pertinent literature, we discovered that several retrospective studies demonstrated the effectiveness of cytoreductive therapy in significantly reducing platelet counts. Based on this finding, we prescribed hydroxyurea to our patient, which led to a gradual decrease in platelet count and ultimately resulted in a return to normal levels.PMID:37554887 | PMC:PMC10405984 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001067
