A Comparative Study of Ultrasmall Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles for Targeting and Imaging Atherosclerotic Plaque
ACS Nano. 2023 Jul 3. doi: 10.1021/acsnano.3c03523. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is a complex disease that can lead to life-threatening events, such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Despite the severity of this disease, diagnosing plaque vulnerability remains challenging due to the lack of effective diagnostic tools. Conventional diagnostic protocols lack specificity and fail to predict the type of atherosclerotic lesion and the risk of plaque rupture. To address this issue, technologies are emerging, such as noninvasive medical imaging of atherosclerotic plaque with customized nanotechnologic...

Ventricular global function index is associated with clinical outcomes in pediatric pulmonary hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: RV GFI was associated with CAO in this cohort, and inclusion in multivariable models had increased predictive value compared to RVEF. GFI uses readily available CMR data without additional post-processing and may provide additional prognostic value in pediatric PH patients beyond traditional CMR markers.PMID:37400886 | PMC:PMC10316558 | DOI:10.1186/s12968-023-00947-8

Contribution Of Mitral Valve Atrioventricular Plane Displacement To The Stroke Volume In Patients With Severe Mitral Regurgitation
Introduction: Longitudinal shortening measured as atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) represents a piston-like movement of the base of the ventricles toward the apex during the cardiac cycle. Prior studies using echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated AVPD to account for a large part of the left ventricular (LV) stroke volume (SV) in athletes, healthy controls, and heart failure patients. We sought to validate the use of cardiac computed tomography (CCT) to measure the AVPD and subsequently explore the contribution of the AVPD towards overall LV SV in patients with functional and primary...

Survey on APS diagnosis and antithrombotic treatment in patients with ischaemic stroke, other brain ischaemic injury or arterial thromboembolism in other sites: Communication from ISTH SSC Subcommittee on Lupus Anticoagulant/Antiphospholipid Antibodies (LA/aPL)
CONCLUSIONS: Much of the variation in practice reflects the lack of evidence-based recommendations. The survey results should inform the development of a more uniform multidisciplinary consensus approach to diagnosis and antithrombotic treatment.PMID:37391096 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2023.06.020

Acupuncture Alters Brain's Dynamic Functional Network Connectivity in Stroke Patients with Motor Dysfunction: A Randomised Controlled Neuroimaging Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture has the potential to modulate abnormal temporal properties and promote the balance of separation and integration of brain function. True acupoint stimulation may have a more positive effect on regulating the brain's dynamic function. Clinical Trial Registration. This trial is registered with Chinese Clinical Trials Registry (ChiCTR1800016263).PMID:37383656 | PMC:PMC10299883 | DOI:10.1155/2023/8510213
