Characteristics and Outcomes of Medicare Patients Treated in Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities: 2013-2018
CONCLUSIONS: Between 2013 and 2018, the number of Medicare patients treated in IRFs increased overall. There were more patients with stroke and neurological conditions and fewer patients with orthopedic conditions. Changes to IRF and other post-acute care policies, Medicaid expansion, and alternative payment programs may partially be driving these changes.PMID:37133331 | DOI:10.1097/RNJ.0000000000000412

Po-03-134 long term outcomes following laao in a large medicare population
The Watchman left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) device was FDA approved for stroke risk reduction in patients with nonvalvular AF in 2015 based on data from randomized clinical trials. Long-term outcomes following LAAO outside clinical trials and small registries are largely unknown. Collecting these data was a condition of US market authorization.

Outcomes of Complex Endovascular Treatment of Post-Dissection Aneurysms
CONCLUSION: Complex endovascular repair of chronic post-dissection aneurysms is feasible, but is associated with high rates of re-interventions and non-trivial rates of lack of technical success. Reply: Stentless versus stented bioprosthetic root replacement in the medicare population and the wisdom of crowds
In our recent analysis of long-term outcomes of aortic root operations in the United States among Medicare beneficiaries using the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database (STS-ACSD) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services linked data for patients aged 65 years or older undergoing elective aortic root surgery, we concluded that the bioprosthetic Bentall operation should be the procedure of choice in this population due to improved survival and lower stroke risk compared with the use of the mechanical Bentall, and lower risk of aortic valve reintervention compared with valve-sparing aortic root replacement.
