Amplatzer versus Figulla occluder for transcatheter patent foramen ovale closure.
CONCLUSIONS: According to this two-centre study, PFO closure appears safe and effective with the Figulla occluder as well as with the Amplatzer device. PMID: 27993750 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Straddling embolus across patent foramen ovale in a case of pulmonary embolism
We present a case of a 37-year-old male who had deep venous thrombosis with acute massive pulmonary embolism and stroke. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed large straddling thrombus in patent foramen ovale along with branch pulmonary artery embolus. Patent foramen ovale was closed and pulmonary artery embolus was removed surgically. We conclude that surgery is the best mode of management in the presence of patent foramen ovale.

Second Transcatheter Closure for Residual Shunt Following Percutaneous Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale.
CONCLUSION: Transcatheter residual shunt closure after initial percutaneous PFO closure can be safely performed under fluoroscopic guidance only and achieves complete closure in most patients. The use of larger devices, typically prompted by intricate anatomy, represents a risk factor for shunt persistence and need of reintervention. PMID: 28437244 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

United Kingdom: coronary and structural heart interventions from 2010 to 2015.
Authors: Ludman PF, de Belder MA, Redwood S, Banning A Abstract In the United Kingdom, a clinical data set is completed for every patient undergoing coronary intervention and certain structural interventions, and sent to central servers in the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) on behalf of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS). These data are linked to the national mortality register. In addition, data are obtained about the structure of healthcare provision using an annual survey. Analyses of these data are provided for different audiences in several formats. Public r...

Intravenous enoxaparin anticoagulation in percutaneous left atrial cardiac procedures.
CONCLUSIONS: IV enoxaparin without monitoring appears as a potential safe and easy-to-use anticoagulation regimen in percutaneous LA cardiac interventions. Further investigations with larger cohorts of patients are warranted. PMID: 28804058 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A traveler in transit: A case of an impending thrombus entrapped in a patent foramen ovale
We report a case of a 50 ‐year‐old male taxi driver who was diagnosed with a massive saddle pulmonary embolism, leg deep venous thromboembolism, and pending paradoxical embolus through a PFO with systemic embolization. The patient had an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter inserted immediately followed by surgical thromboem bolectomy and closure of PFO. He was discharged home 1 month after surgery. Surgery is the treatment of choice for preventing systemic embolization particularly cryptogenic stroke and its sequelae from pending paradoxical embolus. Preoperative IVC filter is a useful adjunct to prevent ongoing thromb oem...

Amplatzer left atrial appendage closure: access via transseptal puncture versus patent foramen ovale or atrial septal defect.
CONCLUSIONS: Use of a PFO/ASD access for LAAC with Amplatzer devices offers similar periprocedural and late clinical outcomes as TSP. Simultaneous PFO/ASD closure for an additional protective benefit does not increase risk. PMID: 31449043 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Patent foramen ovale closure by using transesophageal echocardiography for cryptogenic stroke: single center experience in 132 consecutive patients
Percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) is routinely performed using plain fluoroscopy in the catheter room. This method results in inevitable radiation damage, adverse effects of contrast agents on...
