Association of beta-2-microglobulin, cystatin C and lipocalin-2 with stroke risk in the general Chinese population
CONCLUSION: Elevated serum B2M, cystatin C and LCN-2 levels are associated with stroke risk. They may be novel biomarkers for clinicians to assess stroke risk.Key messagesSerum beta-2-microglobulin, cystatin C and lipocalin-2 levels are significantly associated with stroke risk.Beta-2-microglobulin, cystatin C and lipocalin-2 may serve as useful biomarkers for stroke risk stratification in the general population.PMID:37155257 | PMC:PMC10167872 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2023.2203516

Hypotension-Avoidance Versus Hypertension-Avoidance Strategies in Noncardiac Surgery : An International Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: In patients having noncardiac surgery, our hypotension-avoidance and hypertension-avoidance strategies resulted in a similar incidence of major vascular complications.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: Canadian Institutes of Health Research, National Health and Medical Research Council (Australia), and Research Grant Council of Hong Kong.PMID:37094336 | DOI:10.7326/M22-3157

24-hour ambulatory blood pressure and cryptogenic ischemic stroke in young adults
CONCLUSIONS: Non-dipping patterns of BP were associated with CIS in the absence of a PFO but not in the absence of hypertension. This may reflect differing pathophysiology underlying CIS in patients with versus without a PFO. Due to limitations of the study, results regarding absolute ABP levels should be interpreted with caution.Key MessagesNocturnal non-dipping patterns of blood pressure were associated with cryptogenic ischemic stroke except in participants with a patent foramen ovale and in those without hypertension by any definition, which may indicate differing pathophysiology underlying cryptogenic ischemic stroke ...

Comparison of thromboembolic risk scores for evaluating in-hospital events of COVID-19 patients
Conclusion: We showed that m-R2CHA2DS2-VASc and m-ATRIA-HSV scores were better than the rest in predicting mortality among COVID-19 patients.PMID:37038968 | DOI:10.2217/bmm-2022-0546

Lateral medullary syndrome: uncommon form of brainstem stroke
CONCLUSION: LMS is a rare form of brainstem stroke and carries a favorable prognosis if early hospitalization and treatment is applied. Brain MRI, including diffusion sequence, is the most useful diagnostic tool for detecting LMS.PMID:36923779 | PMC:PMC10010825 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000260

Temporal relationship between hyperuricemia and hypertension and its impact on future risk of cardiovascular disease
CONCLUSION: Increased SUA levels probably precede elevated BP, and BP partially mediates the pathway from SUA to incident CVD.PMID:36890009 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.02.023

Association between Living Conditions and the Risk Factors, Etiology, and Outcome of Ischemic Stroke in Young Adults
Conclusion Our study showed that not only conventional vascular risk factors but also living conditions, especially living alone while unmarried, were independent risk factors for IS in young adults.PMID:36823091 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.0912-22
