Differential Impact of Clinical Factors for Predicting High Platelet Reactivity on Clinical Outcomes in Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients Treated With Clopidogrel and Prasugrel
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical factors listed in the HHD-GENE score may help stratify ischemic risks in patients with acute MI treated with clopidogrel and prasugrel, whereas risk stratification without genetic testing in patients treated with clopidogrel may be challenging.PMID:37316266 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64217

Contaminant Metals as Cardiovascular Risk Factors: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
J Am Heart Assoc. 2023 Jun 12:e029852. doi: 10.1161/JAHA.123.029852. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExposure to environmental pollutants is linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Beyond the extensive evidence for particulate air pollution, accumulating evidence supports that exposure to nonessential metals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic is a significant contributor to cardiovascular disease worldwide. Humans are exposed to metals through air, water, soil, and food and extensive industrial and public use. Contaminant metals interfere with critical intracellular reactions and functions leading to oxidative st...

Association and mediating mechanism between remnant cholesterol and first-ever stroke among the Chinese general population
CONCLUSION: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.PMID:37304024 | PMC:PMC10247974 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2023.1161367

Association of brain microbleeds with risk factors, cognition, and MRI markers in MESA
DISCUSSION: Results suggest differing associations for lobar versus deep locations. Sensitive microbleed quantification will facilitate future longitudinal studies of their potential role as an early indicator of vascular pathology.PMID:37289978 | DOI:10.1002/alz.13346

A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Clinical and Epidemiological Characteristics of Patients with Hypertensive Emergencies: Implication for Risk Stratification
ConclusionsSystolic and diastolic BP are marginally higher in patients with HTNE. Given that these differences are not clinically significant, other epidemiological and medical characteristics (older age, male sex, cardiometabolic comorbidities) as well as patient ’s presentation should be considered to differentiate between HTNU and HTNE.

Pharmacoepidemiologic study of association between apparent treatment resistant hypertension, cardiovascular disease and interaction effect by sex and age
CONCLUSION: aTRH was significantly associated with an increased risk of CVD and this association was modified by both sex and age. Further studies are warranted to test these mechanisms.PMID:37274374 | PMC:PMC10237003 | DOI:10.4330/wjc.v15.i5.262
